i would say luton and you can get a train to Northampton

East Midlands is Junction 24 of the M1, about an hours drive from Northampton.

Birmingham is about 50 miles north as is East Midlands. Luton is about 30 miles south. Heathrow is about 70 miles south.

Birmingham International - has a direct train service to Northampton which takes 1 hour exactly.
