I live in the DC area and know many people who have recieved care from Georgetown University Hospital. Recently I cut off 13 inches of hair and was interested in donating it to a person at Georgetown University Hospital who is in need of a wig, is this possible?

As easy as it sounds, it's not possible. The hospital does not actually make the wigs for those in need. What you could do, is contact the hospital and find out who they purchase their wigs from, get some contact information and then give them a call. Explain your situation, the situation of the person you wish to receive these locks of love and there is a VERY good chance they will donate their time to make the wig if you supply the hair. I've seen it happen a few times. I wish you luck, and honey...you just did a very wonderful thing!

Do it through any cancer charity.

However, in order for it to be acceptable, you need to have tied it securely near the bottom and near the top of the length that you cut off. Otherwise, it's just too difficult to use.

My neice heard about this a number of years ago and decided that she would deliberately grow her hair long enough to donate in this way. She had it cut two years ago, and isn't that far from being able to donate her hair again. When she did go to have it cut, she said that this was what she wanted to do, and her hair was tied appropriately before it was cut. She'll be all of twelve in a couple of weeks, and is less than a year from being able to donate her hair again.

locks of love is 10 inches. some are 8 inches. those are appropriate through fact the hair is made right into a wig, and a lot cant be carried out with much less hair. i advise you purely carry out until your hair gets slightly longer. an usual guy or woman's hair grows at a pair of million/2 inch to and a million inch consistent with month.

Here's the link to "Lock of Love", giving their guidelines for how long the hair needs to be, etc. Please print out the list and take it to your stylist, to ensure your donation is useable.

http://www.locksoflove.org/donate_hair.php

They no longer list participating salons. Phone around, or take the guidelines to your regular place.

When I told the stylist why the girls wanted their hair cut so drastically, she did not even charge for their cut and style!

Good deeds from the girls received a good deed from the stylist, proving that there are good people in this world!

Please consider Locks of Love, which others have already linked you too. Both myself and my best friend cut off our long hair and donated, encouraged by our boss, an oncologic surgeon, a couple of years ago. It felt like actually helping someone, and I liked the hair cut too. (its been short ever since!)
