No! This happened to my family one time. The man said he needed 20 for his wife's athsma medicine and he'd leave it under the mat and gave us his address. Later, no money under the mat. Turns out the address was the house of a person of whom he had used the same story on. Afew weeks later he went to our neighbors house and we had told them of this man. They reported him and turns out he was using that money to buy marijuana and crack.
Moral of the story: Don't give money to people on your doorstep at odd hours of the day no matter how cry worthy their sob story.

You know, I've lived by this standard most of my life: what if it's true and they really do need it for an emergency? on the other hand, if they are scamming me then they must need it more than I do. That's not to say I'd give $100 to someone who fit the profile of a thug/crackhead, but personally I do not give anyone money expecting to get it back, friends, family or otherwise. If they need it so bad they have to go door to door....that or maybe God doesn't want to use this money on whatever I was going to spend it on.

If I had a $5 or $10 bill in my pocket I might. I wouldn't expect it back though and I wouldn't give a large amount of cash to a stranger.

SCAM! Or they are high. Don't even answer your door to a stranger in the night unless you have your Smith & Wesson handy. People are mean and evil and pretty much out of their minds these days.

I would offer to call them a cab and pay the driver to take them to the hospital and no place else. If they turn down your offer then they were probably being dishonest.

when they ask for money for gas, instead offer to fill their tank up instead. then see what happens. this happened to me and the people didnt want me to go with them to a gas station to help them they rather take the cash. so i never did give them anything. well because if they were drug addicts then i would be helping them for their addiction. i wouldnt want that
