I prepared a can of a well known brand of ravioli tonight for my 3 year old son, and noticed something sticking out of one of the raviolis. Upon further inspection it was a roach leg! So we cut open the ravioli and there were roach pieces in the meat filling. We proceeded to cut open the other raviolis and found lots of roach in all of them. I called the companies 800 number and the representitve didnt seem very concerned and offered to send me coupons for free products! Like I am going to buy more of that. It seems to me that these roaches were ground up in the meat and there are probably more cans from the same batch out there! What would you do? I called the FDA, and my local news station. Should I push this any further?

There are a certain amount of bug parts that are allowable in any given food ... gross but true. However, this sounds like it way beyond the allowable amount. Roaches are nasty and can carry disease. Definitely push the issue with the FDA. They SHOULD get back to you, but if you don't hear anything ... keep calling. Sometimes they get bogged down and won't return your calls. Push the news station also. Other people definitely need to know about this so they won't purchase the same product.

I would also suggest that you call the grocery store that you bought the ravioli from and let them know. They might give you a refund or even pull the product from the shelves. Research the company and try to find out (most likely) where the product was made and canned ... and then get in touch with the local health department. Good luck!

That's gross!!!

I've heard that in some states there are an approved number of rodent hairs allowed in canned products, but I haven't heard of roach pieces! It sounds like you have taken all the correct precautions. You may want to contact the president of the company though in regards to the customer service representative with no concern, because that's just not right.

If you think that this has affected your son's health, then push it further. If not, I think you've done all you can.

I would. Take some tape and put the pieces of roach on the back of the label with the product still on it an keep it. Call fox news and see if they have an investigative reporter and are interested in the story. Keep pushing the issue. What is the brand so I know not to buy it.

Yes, you should continue to make people aware of how unsafe their food product is. It's disgusting, then let alone feed it to a consumer. Roaches are unsanitary and cause many dieseases, I hope you get the satisfaction you need.

FDA regulations allow certain "parts per million"....
but this sounds ridiculous.
Call your local "Action Line" and local news..
Make yourself heard.
Many young reporters out their would
love this story.
Sucks, but you will get results.
