It's normal. In fact, I can't think of a dog that I've owned or been around for any length of time that doesn't occasionally twitch in his/her sleep. They sometimes give quiet little "woofs," too. My Mom used to say they're just catching rabbits in their sleep 'cause they can't catch 'em while they're awake.

It's called Puppy dreaming, (or atleast thats what we call it.) Scientists believe that Dogs take the most exciting part of their day and tend to replay it in their mind when they are sleeping. For example, maybe your dog chased a rabbit, it may have only lasted a few seconds, but in his puppy dream he may have been so excited it felt like forever, and he is just chasing it his dreams. We basically do the same thing, but sometimes we are not as physical. If you have a horrible dream, and you toss and turn you are basically twitching in your sleep. My dog typically wags his tail in his dreams and barks occasionaly. Its perfectly normal in not only dogs but other species as well.

That means shes dreaming. Have you ever noticed that sometimes you dream about stepping off a curb and you kick? She's probably doing the same, just playing or running around. It's perfectly normal for dogs to do that. Does she ever whimper or anything? I have a Dachund and a Chihuahua, they both do that and the Chihuahua does it pretty hard too.

have you heard the song Dog Dreams by the Story? It gives a pretty good picture of what princess is doing when she's sleeping. Dreaming, and perhaps running, chasing, etc... My dog's paws twitch, he occasionally will growl or bark softly, and if you watch very closely, you can see his little paws moving as if running very slightly... she's fine as long as it's when she's asleep, and she's not foaming at the mouth or convulsing. Enjoy it - your dog has an imagination!

See, dogs twitch or kick or even bark, this is because they are dreaming. My German Shepherd does this all the time. Its very normal. You can be very gentle and wake the dog, but sometimes they get scared and that can cause a heart attack.

It is completely normal, no need to worry. It happens to dog and people when they are in a deep sleep. Her muscles are completly relaxed, the movement that you are seeing is muscle spasms which happens when the muscles are all completly relaxed. So don't fret over it!

I have a 6yo greyhound who used to race. Everyday I see him 'dreaming' this ranges from wimpy sounds to woofing ,paws moving and tail waging. I justify this as normal.
