I found the perfect gift for my grandfather. My grandmother had passed away a couple years earlier so I bought a fruit tree for him to plant in the yard and told him I planted it in his wifes honor and as it gave fruit it to us it was how she also gave to us in her life. He really enjoys it and takes care of it. Hope this helps

Money or budget is not a problem. In fact, the elderly people have a very few desires in worldly terms and the fact is that are terribly alone.
So, it is better that you decide to spend enough quality time with him on that day. Talk to him and you would get an access to treasure of memories, experiences and wisdom. Take him for an outing and if possible have a meal together.
If you really want to gift something material, be practical. Think of a good & comfortable dress. If he uses a cellphone and finds it very inconvenient, get him an elderly friendly cell phone with big keys & large display. If he wears spectacles, you might get him a new pair after proper checking. LOT OF OPTIONS INDEED.

What your Granddad likes? How about a nice sweater, or homemade cookies or a homemade soup (whatever food you know to make like a pro, that you know he loves)

Being a granddad myself, I only wish my grandchildren to spend some of their spare time with me. I love to give them presents.

try not to be materialistic. give him ur one full weekend, take him out to place of his choice, talk to him for hours. feast him with his favourite food. if u can, celebrate his birthday as u will celebrate the b'day of ur child, small party, cake, decorations, caps, horns, his friends/near relations, music, photographs and whatever u think to make him VIP of the day. if he is religious arrange 'havan' for him. MAKE THIS ONE DAY AS IF HE IS THE LORD.

How about a watch? Thats a universal, safe and could be cheap gift with meaning. If you get a cheaper one you could also get it engraved.

Write a short autobiography and have it book bound with some of his pictures. I am sure he would love it and treasure it forever.

Time is the best gift of all. Fix him a nice meal, and enjoy it with him. ask him to tell you stories. share your thoughts with him. play cards, or read to him.
