Do you think it is ok or cruel to put clothing on a pet? I odn't have a certain opinion but I was just wondering what others thought.

I think it depends on the pet, and the purpose of the clothing. Our Chihuahua is a small, short-haired dog, which means he will loose body heat quickly when outside in cold weather. He needs his sweater this time of year. He also has a coat for when it gets colder, and the coat is adjustable so it can go on over his sweater if necessary. Stanly likes both his sweater and his coat. And even if he didn't like them, but would tolerate them, he'd have to wear what was necessary to keep him healthy. If he didn't like them, though, Stan would only go out when it was necessary.

As for clothing just for fun, well, I've seen some pretty weird Hallowe'en costumes on pets that looked as if they weighed a ton. And the animals in them looked unhappy and uncomfortable. And I've seen some costume-wearing pets that looked like they were strutting, saying, "Look at me. I'm cool!"

For fun, not functional, clothing, my opinion is that you should do what makes BOTH of you, owner and pet, happy, not just one or the other.

It depends on the pet. Some dogs seem to enjoy their clothing while others act as if they'll die if that sweater stays on another second. My Chihuahua does not like being dressed up, however he will tolerate it if the weather is exceptionally cold and he has to go outside to potty. My old Chi cross female got very excited when I brought out her clothes... I believe she associated wearing clothing with getting lots of attention from people and she seemed to enjoy her accessories.

If the dog dislikes it, then it's cruel but I imagine dogs who have been dressed up since puppies don't think anything of it.

I think it's okay, but it varies. Some people dress pets as part of *looking good themselves* and use their pets as an *acessory*.

Other than that, I've putted tshirts on my dog just to see what she'd do and how she look, only for a few minutes because she'd take it off.

It is perfectly fine to cloth your dog. Many dogs enjoy wearing clothes because to them it seems like a job, such as carrying things for you and most enjoy it very much. There are few dogs who will completely freeze when you put clothes on them only because it is a new experience for them and they just dont know what to do. Many people clothe their dog to protect them from the weather to keep them warm which is very benefitial to them, but don't over cloth your dog on hot days just so they dont get over heated. If you make wearing clothes a positive experience for your dog, they will most definitly enjoy it!

I don't think it's cruel in any way. I have five Chihuahuas that I dress up all the time, mainly because they get cold easily, but I think it's really cute, and they sell alot of neat clothes and accessories for animals.

I think it's funny at the same time I wonder if they feel like they are in a straight jacket. Maybe animals should ban together and chew up all the clothes so their Master don't put them on them.

I think its ok. I have little dogs and they get cold this time of year so they wear sweaters and they seem to like them. I take them off to wash them and when its time to put them back on they come right over and lift their legs like they're trying to get dressed. Its cute! I don't dress them in the summer. It's too hot and is wrong to "wear your pet".

If you have a dog that does not have the necessary fine fur to keep them warm, then external clothing is appropriate and necessary.

What I find disgusting is the people who do not use appropriate clothing, but put on "cutsie" clothing that serves no function in keeping the dog warm.

I dont think its cruel at all. In fact some breeds need sweaters/jackets/coats to protect them from the cold. Think of a chihuahua so small and always trembling, sometimes they are just cold. I always have a sweater on my dog especially since I keep her coat fairly short, and it can get pretty cold here in winter. She never complained once. lol

owning a pet is having complete control over everything that the pet does.. they have no say in anything. so we should be loving our pets, not showing them off. i think pet clothing is on the same level and child beauty pageants. both wrong.
