First of all it depends on what wrong with it. If it something basic like the extension cord cut off, or picture qualities of the dvd player are beginning to ware thin, then it wont cost much and can even cost as little as 10.00 if you know how to fix it your self. You could even take it to a repair man and ask them whats wrong with it. They might charge you alittle for asking, but if its cheap enough to be able to fixed on your own then it will be worth it. If its more technical then depending the size and quality of the player, then prices may vary between 25.00 and 55.00. They sometime can be more like when the dvd player itself is in the television. Then it can cost even more sometimes. If that were the case depending on how nice the tv is and how long it would take braking down the tv to get to the part needing to be fixed then that can cost more. Typically its just a basic dvd player and they have to unsrew a couple area and replace the broken part. My dad used to have an entertainemnt system and it cos thim about 50.00 dollars to get it fixed. Unlike him though i had a cheaper model and opened it up and prayed it out with liquid air. Or can air. The same product they use to clean somputers. It spray high pressure air on the system and breaks away dust and other particles. Sometimes you can spray the air directly from the outside of the sytem. without taking it apart. Spray the outside of it including the section with the fan. Then turn it on and see if it helped at all.Good luck with it.

It usually costs about $50 to just look at it. More to fix it. You can buy a pretty good DVD player with that money.
I had a similar situation (AVR/DVD in a box) and the player part died.
So, I bought a new DVD player, but I connect the digital audio output from my new player to the old DVD/receiver. I am just using the receiver/tuner part (and my old speakers).
I am sure your old unit has at least one input (coax or optical). Just make sure the new player you buy supports either both options or at minimum the one you have. Buy a coax or optical audio cable and you are set! You may even consider to upgrade to a DVD recorder at this point.

I'd try calling Sony's 1-800# on the box. See if they can fix it, or if its under warranty, they can replace it. Most likely though you should be a new DVD player and a new receiver. Separate is always better. Like in those TV/DVD Combos, if the TV breaks, the DVD is no good. I never buy in combos, its not worth it.
Most likely though I'd just buy a new one, unless its relatively new or has a warranty. Call Sony.

That's the downfall when it comes to the HTIB systems or and
combined system -down-time of the entire system if one of its
components fails.
I'm sure it will be at least $50+ to get it repaired. It's up to you if
it's worth it or not, but I would suggest avoiding future hassle by
investing in a separate receiver and DVD player for better quality
as well as having more choices if one component should happen
to ever fail. You know the old saying, "you get what you pair for"?
