What are you feeding it? Do you live in a cold climate and is it an outside dog? There are many factors that could cause weight loss; including poor quality food, parasitic infection, heart/liver/kidney problems, and having to use energy to keep warm. If you live in a cold climate, you need to be providing extra food for the dog. But, you really need to take it to the vet to see if there is anything else wrong with it.

I'm not sure how old your dog is or if he is outside dog or inside and what kind of food you feed it but I have come to some ideas:
1.) Poor quality of food. The food may be not that great of quality and has fillers. Which will cause the dog to pass more of the food than use it for its body. If it just has a few nutrients your dog is going to use those up and the rest of it goes out with poop and urine. If this occurs your dog isnt getting enough nutrition from the food and needs to be switched with a healthier brand. consult your vet for a better quality food that would best suit your dog. some good brands are, iams, eukanuba, science diet. etc.
2.) If it is an outside dog like others have mentioned it could be using a lot of its energy to keep warm in this time of year. That means a lot of its food goes to keeping it warm rather than aiding its body. You should feed it either more times throughout the day like 3 or 4 instead of just 2. Or just feed her more when it is his daily meal time.
3.) She could have parasites such as worms or she could have a diesease such as cancer or liver, kidney problems that could be causing him to lose weight. You should consult a vet and set up an appointment so you can make sure nothing seriously is wrong with her.
4.) she could be sick. Since it is a colder time of year she is probably more prone to sickeness just like everyone else is. Make sure he has a warm place to go to if it is an outside dog. If it is an inside dog make sure it stays warm too. Also take your dog to a vet to get some medication or something to help cure the cold so it doenst get serious or cause an infection.
Bottom line is take your dog to the vet so you can make sure it doesnt have cancer, parasites, cold, liver or kidney infections ect. causing loss of weight. Also your vet can tell you a better brand of food or how much your should feed your dog in the colder seasons. Good luck and happy holidays!

The food might not be good quality or he may be sick. Worms and parasites, as well as some serious illness like cancer will also cause animals to loose weight. If your little guy is losing alot of weight you really need to take him to the vet asap. Best of luck, I hope everything works out for you.

You did not tell us how old he is or about any vetting, especially if a pup or newly aquired???
As suggested by another, there could be several reasons for not gaining weight. Quality of food. Worms and other illness.
Please call and schedule a check up for your rottie.

i'm interior the skill of switching my cat to moist foodstuff with dry foodstuff on the area in basic terms in case she desires some. i'm beginning her off with organic and organic moist foodstuff, mutually with Innova Evo, well being, and another style i won't undergo in suggestions the call is. i'm in basic terms attempting a pair to determine that she would be able to love what i'm giving her. As for the dry foodstuff, I provide her The Goodlife Recipe...that's made with organic factors yet nevertheless incorporates wheat and grains which isn't a uncomplicated part of a cat's weight loss plan, and that i visit alter it to a greater useful organic foodstuff mutually with Royal Canin or Innova Evo. those are the two costly manufacturers yet while she is on moist foodstuff basically she would be able to no longer bypass by way of a dry foodstuff bag as speedy so it somewhat is somewhat worth it. Your cat eats precisely what my cat decrease back in St. Louis eats. he will in basic terms consume Fancy banquet Egg Souffle or the fowl form...he's very stingy. He does consume Purina Naturals although, yet it ought to nevertheless be greater useful. have exciting along with your cat!! P.S. - i'm no longer saying to alter to organic and organic foodstuff, I even have seen/had cats that lived sixteen-18 years on Friskies and Purina...it somewhat is in basic terms a peace of suggestions for myself.
