Depends on the state you live in. In California, you can be a single person (man or woman) and adopt. It is easy to get a child since there are so many available (older children, that is, like from 5-18).
But each state has their own laws.
Contact the county seat where you live, and find out what their laws are. There's no reason why a single person can't be a great adoptive parent.

I don't know what the laws are governing your area, but I do know that in Manitoba, Canada, you can do both as a single person. If you go on the adoption list, you have a long wait for a child, but that's the same for single or married. If your marital/housing status changes from the time you file until you get the child you have to refile, so you don't want to get married or live together with someone in between. Otherwise, there's no problems, as long as you can provide a home for the child.

Yes. I had a foster mom who was a single parent. You basically have to meet the same requirements as a couple would as far as income meeting your own needs without the money for the kids, space and safety in your home and passing a criminal background check and homestudy.

Absolutely! They will put more effort into your screening - don't be offended! - they just want to make sure that since there is one of you [instead of 2] that you are up for the challenge :)
PS A child needs a loving home with an open minded parent who is willing to love them MORE than the traditional two parent home. A child does not need both sexes to be properly raised and grow into a responsible adult etc etc etc... what a closed minded idea that would be!!!!

Yes, especially if you are willing to adopt an older child. There are soooo many children 5 years and older that the so called ideal parents (husband & wife couples) want nothing to do with because they're no longer cute little infants, who desperately need loving homes.

yes if you have a car lol im serious take parenting class and have a car no job on welfare and you will be considered top of the line over qualified how do i know? my friend is a foster mom single mom no job but has a car lol dont ask me why

yes to be foster parent for sure. but for adoptive i think you has to be married because they want the kids to have a family which they've probably never had. and good luck you, you could make one of these kids days and you may give them the best love, care, enjoyment, and home that they've ever had. i think you should try. it's nice of you your not just thinking of yourself but others too and a blessing will appear soon just continue doing the right things.

Each state has different rules and qualifications, so the answer depends upon where you live. Contacting your local county or state "Child and Family Services" office can answer that question for you.

Yes, just be prepared to fill out a ton of paperwork and go through a pretty long process/ Be absolutely sure you want to do it. I had a teacher who did that, it took her forever.
