Carbonation is really carbon dioxide is a colorless gas which produces sort of a sour taste in the mouth and a stinging sensation in the nose and throat. These effects result from the gas dissolving in the mucous membranes and saliva, forming a weak solution of carbonic acid.

it irritates sensitive nerve endings in your throat. I used to have a 7-8 Diet Coke a day habit, and recently gave it up for water. Amazingly, I found that my acid reflux disease got a lot better. It was the carbonation in the soda aggravating it.

you might be swallowing too much at one time,,, does it feel like your throat is blowing up? or does it feel like burning kinda.... .the burning is the acid and the bubbles.... i think its supposed to do that... but the blowing up part happens when you take too big a drink at one time, and the air all sits there with the soda, and the bubbles blow up...... ick... pain... yuk.
try taking smaller sips or pouring it into a glass with ice.. it helps me. or better yet,,,, dont drink it, and go for the water. :)
have a good day!!!

Coke is not good for you period. To demonstrate my claim, take a chicken leg, put it in a glass of coke, and let it sit for a while. After a while, the coke will dissolve the chicken leg, and then just think about what that stuff does to your insides.
