I had surgery last Wednesday to remove a bone spur on my collarbone and had already expected to be sick from the anesthesia most of the day of the surgery. But I'm still getting headaches that are sometimes making me nauseous and the only thing I can do to get rid of them is go to sleep.I'm getting them a few times a day.I have had surgery twice before, both surgeries worse then this previous one and didn't have the same problem.Has anybody else ever had this problem or know if it's normal?

They gave me meds for the nausea and pain but I haven't used either of them.I prefer not too.I've taken an Advil occasionaly for my head but that's it.

Yes, it can happen.

Many people get sick from the anesthesia and it takes them days to get well until the anesthesia leaves their system.

I was the same way a few years ago after surgery.
Just rest a lot and try to drink a lot of fluid (ginger ale is good) to flush the anesthesia out of your system.

PS: Regarding your headaches. See your doctor about them. They may not be connected to your surgery.

Also, if you're taking Tylenol with Codeine: stop taking it. That stuff made me sick and I had to stop taking it. My surgeon prescribed it for me after I had my gallbladder out in 1994.

The headaches you describe are consistent with migraine headaches. See your doc and get this checked out. The headaches are most likely not related to the surgery but the doc can give you some medication to help relieve the migraines when you do get one.

You could have picked up an infection, which is somewhat common after a surgery. It could be your pain meds as well. However, seeing as its been nearly a week, you should give your doc a call.

Feel better.

i just had surgery on my shoulder too, i didn't have any pain... i think what you should check are the medication you are on (were you on the same stuff for the other surgeries? and are you following the directions... cause i took my vicodin without eating once and i had a killer headache. so other than those, check your diet and fluid consumption.... hope that helps feel better

the doc could have left a foreign object in your body during the surgery like a sponge or something that is causing an infection.
or
you could just need to rest before getting back to normal.

It may be the painkillers you're on. Codeine makes me puke. Find out if you can switch.

The drugs do that to you as well. Wait it out.
