Hi Jeff...if your girlfriend's cat has urinary incontinence it would be advisable to seek medical attention. It may be a result of lower urinary tract infection, weak bladder sphincter or other medical causes due to age such as hyperthyroidism and/or Chronic Renal Failure (CRF).
Please consider reviewing the following website to learn more specifics to causes of urinary incontinence in general and with regards to aging pets:

Here are a few ideas:
1.) Because of old age he is probably having a harder time with controlling his bladder and leeks from time to time.
2.) He could have some type of stones or something or maybe a tumor causing the bladder to not funtion properly. Or maybe a disease or worms etc.
3.) He may be too lazy to use the litter box because he is getting older or it may be to hard on him to go across the house to use the potty so he just goes. Make sure he can get to the kitty litter easily or place a litter box in numerouse places or the places he usually is.
4.) he might have a urinary tract infection causing this.
Bottom line, Get him checked our by the vet so you can treat him if neccessary or get him on some medication to help him control his bladder better ect. I hope this helped you out. Happy Holidays!

If he's 12, he's the equivelant of a 65 year old man. Most of them leak at least a little sometimes. But medical problems do begin to show up at this age that can be serious if not treated and this situation should get a vet's attention. By the way, if she would abandon her cat, you are well rid of her. You clearly got the better part of the deal.

Get him to the vet ASAP! Sounds like he could be having some Renal problems and the Meow Mix isn't helping since it has a high content of ash. The vet will give you ideas on other foods to feed him..but if you do change food and he won't eat anything else..he won't starve himself to death...eventually he'll eat what's there before he starves. You really should try to get him to eat some other foods besides the Meow Mix though...something soft...canned preferably since he is getting older...eventually when he gets really old, his teeth won't be as strong as they are when he's younger and the soft food will be easier for him to eat...so try to get him used to other softer foods other than the crunchy stuff for when he gets older.
As for the spots where he dribbled...clean those areas with white vinegar...it will get rid of that odor...male cat pee is one of the worst and hardest odors to eliminate...white vinegar will fix that. It's a natural neutralizer.

When I noticed my male cat leaking urine I took him to the vet and was informed that he had an urinary blockage. He was hospitalized immediately and put on an IV. Was told that if I would have ignored the situation the cat would have died. When he was released from the hospital he had to be on antibiotics and special food. Cat is fine now and I'm more careful of what I feed him (no shellfish).

Cat's do no longer sweat from their physique. They sweat from their mouths and ft. because her total area became moist, I heavily doubt that is drool, the two. i've got not encountered this, and that is in no way usual. i could call your vet. If that is a few usual element, they are in a position to permit you be attentive to precise over the telephone and you will no longer could be bothered. because you have had her 13 years, i'm assuming you're especially related and desire what's terrific for her. If the vet ought to be sure her, do it. She's getting up there now, and could in all threat could be considered via the vet a splash greater often to make beneficial she remains healthful. sturdy success!

i have an older female dog. she was fixed but now completely randomly she will leak some sort of clear liquid (it's like pee but not). the vet said it had something to do with her being fixed and her body still wanting to go through that cylce. the only other thing i can think of for your cat is lack of bladder control due to ols age. hope this helps

My mom's cat had stones and leaked. If that is the case then he is probably in a lot of pain and should go to the vet. I believe the only way to get rid of them is surgery. I remember her telling me she had to get a special food that reduced the chance of getting them again after the surgery.

please do not get upset with your cat, they develop issues just like people we had a big male cat that all of a sudden started backing up to furniture couch etc. and urinate, but if you saw him you would understand it was hard for him to release. we took him to the vets and he was developing crystals in his urine, well it gets complicated we got the medicine and in short he was better.please either read up from the Internet or go to the vets. good luck.

Periodically, move him from one spot to the next. That should stop the problem.
