Hello!
Anti-anxiety med's may make you a bit sleepy/drowsy when you first start on them. But your body will get accustomed to the med's and the drowsiness will let up soon.
Anti-anxiety med's should not make you a zombie. That isn't the purpose of these med's. The med's are to calm your nervous system so that you can get more in control over your anxiety.
I had to go through several med tries, to find the right one for me. None of them made me a zombie. Generally speaking, only the family of anti-psychotic med's can make someone feel like a zombie because they are very strong med's.
So don't be afraid to take anti-anxiety med's.
I hope this helped.
I wish you the very best! :)

No, that's NOT how they work. You kids are so impressionable (& sometimes indescribably gullible): whenever I go to this location on Yahoo there are inevitably questions from kids who are in abject terror of taking doctor-prescribed medication(s). Where on earth are you guys getting "information" that anti-anxiety medication will turn you into a zombie??? These poor kids are freaking right out JUST because they were never taught how to evaluate the QUALITY of the information they find and the CREDIBILITY of the sources they consult. I guess they don't teach this in schools anymore and you kids are the losers for it. Each time I see a question like this I am taken aback and wonder:

1. Why are you asking such a question on this forum instead of asking a qualified professional scientist (ie. your doctor). If you are still unsure then seek a QUALIFIED second opinion.

2. Why are you not looking up the drug online on a reputable, authoritative site like the National Library of Medicine?

3. You are damn lucky to have this stuff available to you: when I was your age it didn't exist and people were left to suffer - and die sometimes.

Good luck and try to make smarter choices in the future. That's why I bit your head off right now so please learn something today.

From a personal experience. I hate anti-anxiety medicines. It takes so long to find one that actually works- I gave up. They made me sleep all day, gain 40 pounds, and at times, I was more depressed that prior to taking the meds. I got off of them and now I just exercise, meditate, and see a therapist. It works wonders!

Depends on what kind of anti-anxiety meds you are taking. Some can make you sleepy. I wouldn't take the med. unless the doctor has prescribed it to you. That is very important. Do not take someone else's meds. It could be very dangerous.

Yes, unfortunately they can make you feel like a zombie-what I call feeling like a robot (emotionally numb). But in my opinion I'd rather feel like a zombie than have anxiety ruin the quality of my life or interfere with my ability to hold down a job.

They can have many different side effects and that is one of them. It is better to treat it naturally. See site below. Then go to page about having more happiness.

A lot of anxiety makes you unhappy. An average amount of it will makes you as happy as most, which is not very happy. The idea is to experience very little anxiety and stress so you can be very happy. Everybody has anxiety but the answer is not drugs. It is to find things that relax you like reading, yoga, mediation or tai chi. I have done all 4 of these. You can become super-relaxed and experience a lot of inner peace. It is your birthright.

Assuming we are talking about benzos (Ativan, Xanax, Klonopin, etc)...At a low dose, they should not do that. If you are taking them for extreme anxiety, they will just bring you back to a more normal, tolerable level where you can actually function. In that instance, it will not make you feel any sort of high either. Higher doses generally will make you (well, me) really tired.

No, unless your a lightweight in terms of meds. Eg My mum took 2 5mg valium and slept for 12 hours, and never took them again, I take 50mg valium, and i can only just notice i have had something. You build up a tolerance. Avoid alcohol, unless you wanna be more mashed/drunk quicker.

No they should not make you a zombie and if they seem to make you to drugged or zombie like as you refer to it then update your doc so he can either adjust your dosage or change your med.

The right dosage won't make you feel like a zombie but the side affect is that your sex life will suffer they calm you down and therefore make it hard to get an erection and maintain it.
