my bichon is fat. How often should I walk it and for how long; minutes?

Take your frou-frou dog out on a walk 2-3 times daily. Walk for a mile; about 45 min. Hope you and your dog start getting healthy!

your bichon should only require 1/2 half cup of dry food twice a day at a maximum. you can find a premium food at the grocery or vet (Costco/Kirkland lamb and rice, or a brand with meat as the first ingredient). You can give her a spoon's worth of wet dog food mixed in with each meal, if you like, and take her for a walk once a day for about 1/2 hour. additionally, don't give her table scraps. bichons don't need very much food - remember that if you don't pick up her food and you keep a bowl of kibble available to her, she may consume more than you know, and more than she needs! A total of a cup a day is enough.

unless your dog lays around all day and never moves, a solid combination of reduced diet and increased exercise should do the trick.

I have a bichon and he was getting a wee bit chubby, we went to the vet and they put him on science diet reduced intake food and we go for more walks than before. He's all shaped up now

I have a Datsun and I try to walk him once a day if the weather permits but I at least try to walk him 3 times a week and at least a mile or two. It's good for him because not only does it build leg muscles but it keeps his nails from getting too long and the walk is good for you as well, Happy walking!

Walk it as frequently per day as possible. Not long strenuous walks as this can strain and damage muscles and joints. Eg. 20 mins 3-4 times a day I'de recommend. You may wish to try feeding it 'diet' specialised food , I know supercoat brand makes these.
