This sounds weird, but a nurse told me about it and it worked for me.
Mix a cup of very warm water, a goody powder or crushed asprin, 3 tablespoons lemon juice, and a tablespoon of salt.
Gargle with it every hour or so. It tastes awful, but it helped my throat in one day.
The warm water relaxes the throat, the asprin is a pain reliever, the lemon juice cuts through the mucus coating, and the salt helps dry up the raw part of the throat.
Not guaranteed, but I hope it works.

Try some Zicam cold remedy, you can get it at your local Walgreens, Wal Mart, etc. Green tea also.

this what my mom gave me when i was a little girl: warm milk and a piece of butter to suck on. it really helped my painfull sore throat. Also take lots of vitamin C and drink lots of warm fluids like tea and milk.

peppermint tea with honey or lemon... anything with Vitamin c
and, as gross as it sounds, olive or vegetable oil helps...
