Well, your in Spain not in Rome. Alcohol by-laws differ country to country, first I would find out the legal age of drinking in Spain. Although if you are asking for permission to drink your self it is all up to you. If the law there allows you to drink when your 16, then sure it would be okay for you to drink, but are you ready to take responsibility for your drinking and the effects and behaviour that may accompany you when drinking. If you feel that you are responsible enough, and that your will to say "stop" when you have had enough and also if you are with someone else responsible too, to support each other. For example, I would trust my children better if they drink in front of their parents that way they get used to regulate how much they can take, and that there is no peer pressure enticing them to drink, if you know what I mean, because bad things could happen when there is abuse in using alcohol.

I was born and raised in England, we have much lower drinking ages over there and in the rest of Europe. I've been to Spain many times, the first time at 15 years of age. I drank, but moderately. I'm much older now and nowhere near an alcoholic! I rarely drink at all. I guess the key is moderation and whether you trust yourself to control the drinking and the consequences that might come with it :)

Yes and no.
Yes: enjoy one drink of local fare just to have had the experience.
No: drinking every night and getting so drunk that you don't remember the trip.
Remember there is a reason that 16 year-olds can't drink, and, it has been my experience as someone of legal drinking age, that kids who are in foreign countries and using the "when in Rome" analogy not only end up making complete fools out of themselves, but end up in situations they regret.
Keep it to a minimum if you must drink. The purpose of your trip probably isn't to be drunk, but to enjoy the sights, sounds, and culture of another country.

That depends very much on whether or not you drink illegally at home. If you do then go ahead and drink in Spain as you'll still be able to handle the drink and know your limits. If, however, you intend to simply walk into a bar and get as wasted as possible without any prior experience of alcohol then my advice would be to stay sober.

If I was underage, can't drink in the US, but went on vacation to somewhere with a lower drinker age, then yes I would drink. Why not? It's legal there right? One of the reasons to travel is to enjoy other cultures, see how they live, and how its different from how you live.

Answer: No.
But this happens all the time in Mexico.
And as far as Europe goes...
You can order any drink in Paris and as long as you
stay cool about it... they "overlook" their own "drinking law".
If you want to "remember" your trip to Spain...
I strongly suggest that you do not drink.
Unless you plan on living there.

It is illegal for a 16 yr old guy to buy alcohol (and it's illegal if someone buy it for him). In some regions (like Madrid) it's illegal to drink in the street.
