I've come across numerous answers to this question, but none of which suit my particular situation.
I have a small Maltese, and she has just turned 1. She recently has/has had her first heat. Many dogs have been hanging around and i am unsure of whether or not they have "done the deed" with my dog.
My dog recently has gained a little weight around her waist, has enlarged nipples , has thrown up about 3 times and uncharacteristically just peed on the floor.

I'm only 17, and did not not the full extent of 'dog heat' knowledge that there was to know.
we keep her inside usually, she s let out at times to pee. i was explaining how odd it was since there has not been a decent opportunity that a dog could have succesfully mated with her,
also, we have a very secure gate.

She could very well be pregnant because those are what seems to me obvious signs to it.

1.) Gaining weight
2.) Enlarged nipples meaning her breasts could be making milk or getting ready to.
3.) Throwing up, sound just like morning sickness with humans.
4.)Peeing on the floor out of no where could be a sign. I'm sure her bladder is probably getting pushed on more than usual causing her to all of the sudden need to go pee. Just like humans sometimes pregnant women need to pee right when they feel the urge to since their bladder is being pushed on or other obvious reasons.

I am just guessing here there isnt really a way to for sure know if she is or not. The only way to find out for sure is to take her to the vet. He can do a pregnancy test or something to tell. Also these could just be symptoms from her heat. She could have a hormone change causing these things to happen to her. Just like women when we have our cycles we have stomach aches, and other obvious symptoms from the hormone changes and such. Just give her some time and see if they go away or get more prominent. The best thing you can do is to call your vet up and aks him about it or schedule an appointment. Also once everything is said in done either way please get her spayed since i'm sure you dont want to have to deal with another litter of puppies and i'm sure her "heat" is a pain since they bleed all over the place and you have to have them wear a diaper and everything...Good luck though and Happy Hoidays!

ok that person 1st was/is just rude.
Your dog could very well be pregnate. But i would wait about two weeks or so. Depending on how long ago she went in to heat. the reasons are 1 because like humans they "swell up a bit" and it usally takes a week or teo for that to go away. She could also be having a flase pregnacy. My Sheltie does this all the time. Some dogs want to have puppies more than others ( just like people) and they have flase pregnacys (yeah i know i can't spell sorry) anyway her hormones could also be out of wack more than usal this time of the year. If you think she's prgenate you should be able to feel puppies at about 21 days or so. You could also take her to vet and they could do a blood test to find out for sure. good luck with her

I find it hard to answer this question without a reprimand,But since the damage has probably been done and the symptoms point to an existing pregency I'll try. NO one on Yahoo answers can tell you for sure since we have Vag Info. And i am not a vet so that disqualifies me. HOWEVER, a vet can probably tell with an exam. and for certain if he does an ULTRA SOUND.
You can pick up information at your local animal shelter on
responsible dog onership Or AKC.ORG.

I sincerely hope this is a sick joke. Did you leave your tiny dog outside when you knew she was in heat, and you let every male dog within 5 miles come calling without thought to what would happen to your dog? What size were these other dogs? Big dogs like labs, rottweillers, pitbulls? You do know that a pregnancy with your dog and a very large dog will probably kill your dog, right?

Your parents being the adults should have been more responsible. Please have your dog spayed so she won't have any huge pups growing inside of her.

My little shih tzu was about a year old when she got pregnant on her first heat. She had enlarged nipples and a bigger tummy. Also toward the end you could feel movement in her tummy. She also had "morning sickness".

Possibly. Why isn't she spayed, and why was she outdoors with other dogs when you knew she was in heat? You need to spay that poor thing, it's very dangerous for a dog that young to have puppies. She could sustain serious damage or even die giving birth. Any dog should be at least 2 years, and toy dogs should be 3. You need to get her to a vet.

Better bring it to the vet for observation it is a 60% chance that its pregnant. One year old is kinda young to be pregnant. Better have the vet look at it just to be on the safe side.

Well, if you are irresponsible enough to leave an unspayed dog unattended...she could be. And you can't be stupid enough to think that people over the computer can tell you for sure.......can you??
Guess you are "too young" to know what spaying is?????
