I know they are available even out of season, I was asking if there are particular months in Puerto Rico when they are more abundant than papayas.

Like everyone else said, mango season is in the summer and yes you can still find mangos in the market

BUT, JANUARY IS THE SEASON FOR A FRUIT CALLED POMA ROSA (don't know what it's called in English I've heard some call it a plum rose).

You may have never heard of it or seen it but do ask for it when you go in January.

It is delicious!

I'm sure there are different kinds. It is the size and shape of a small pear. It is red as an apple on the outside and snow white on the inside with a single pit. It smells and tastes like a rose. The texture can be crunchy to soft just like a pear. And it can be juicy if soft or dry if crunchy but always flavorful. The fruit grows on a very large bush that has large whitish flowers. It is only in season every January.

It has been years since I've eaten one but just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

Hey, sorry this has nothing to do with fruit. But, if you are going to Puerto Rico in January and will be there the 22-25th makes sure to go to the San Sabastian Festival on San Sebastian Street in Old San Juan. You'll have a blast!

Try late summer... although mangos can be found all yr around thanks to importation from places in South America. This need to be said: Deforestation is a major problem in Puerto Rico (too many people, little space) and trees including mango trees are fast disappearing from the countryside. Of course for that we will blame the "gringos" since we blame everything on them--but keep the food stamps coming. As a people we need to assume responsibility for our actions and stop blaming the "gringos". No mangos for you!

Its not mango season, but you can find them all year round at any market or supermarket. Also, you can find sweets made from mango, including mango jam, candy etc. Many places also have mango ice cream..
