If the boy is "whipped" as you say and really loves this girl, had a good relationship with the father (they liked him I guess), then why not give him a chance to do the right thing.
Just as you say, jailing him solves nothing and prevents him from stepping up to the plate and being a father to this baby (if that's what they decide). 17 and 14 are still just kids, still in high school, I don't see this as a criminal act.

Wow.. that is a tough one... I definitely agree that it takes two to tango.. however, she is 14 and he is 17... not 18 so he is not an adult either (unless there is another age thing I am not aware of in the state of AZ).
I don't think jailing the boy solves anything either... I think he needs to be responsible for his actions though , as well as the young girl. They are going to be parents - TOGETHER- and they need thier families to support them through this.. I think they both have learned a very valuble lesson ( well, hopefully) and the best thing, in my opinion, is to just deal with the consequences of their actions and give this baby the best life they possibly can - whether that is raise the baby or put the baby up for adoption. What is done is done.. not much you can do about it now...
As to why society punishes the boy most often in cases like that, is because the boy is usually the oldest one of the "tango". I usually hear ( in the news) the boy is 18 year old or older and the girl is 17 or younger... which leads to the boy , being the adult, to jail time. I can't recall a story where the girl was over 18... unless you consider those teacher/student news stories that have been going on... UGH!!

I don't think the boy should be put in jail, but I do think that he should make sure he has a job and support the child. It does take two to tango, but the only reason he'd be in trouble would be the age of consent issue. If the girl was already 15 then it wouldn't even be in discussion. The girl should do the best she can to raise their baby, and the boy should do his best to support their baby.

First of all, it doesn't matter that ancient societies condoned sex at younger ages because most teenagers were fully prepared to take care of their families. Most young men knew their trades, most young girls knew their domestic duties.
Nowadays, we don't condone sex at those younger ages because teenagers are ill-prepared to care for their children. Teens need college or some other job-preparation before having children. Our world is much more complicated. Taking care of a child involves enormous amounts of money, time, health care, exaustion. Take it from me! And I had my first child when I was 33.
All that said, these two young people are going to have some serious growing up to do. All their petty, whiny, infantile problems pale in comparison to the needs of the little child they have produced. THAT CHILD comes first. And for the next 20 years, both this whiny whipped boy and this sassafras girl need to GROW UP and figure out how to care for their baby. What crap to be born into this situation. But if they start early enough, maybe this child can have a decent life.
If they girl were 14 and the guy were 21, he should rot in jail. But the guy here was underage too. He needs to take care of his child. Period.

i agree 100% with you, i mean they are even making that girl a statistic, a single mom. At that age its young to be having a baby and she is going to need all the support she can get, having the father around would help her and the baby, true that he should not be punished, he didn't rape the girl or anything and no charges should be pressed anyway thats just a way to get back at the guy for her getting pregnant cuz its automatically his fault. They knew they were together, gave permission and now wants to do that? that is just wrong anyway

Whatever happens to them, so be it for being absolutely careless in a society that knows what birth control is.
However, the baby should be put up for adoption. There are lots of childless couples who would love to give a baby a good and nurturing home, more than two kids could.

She needs to get an abortion or put the baby up for adoption. Then both of them should be beaten within an inch of their stupid lives, with severe beatings to follow periodically until the girl is 18. In between beatings they should get locked in separate closets.
I almost forgot, the father of the girl should be forced to work in an abortion clinic and be beaten every minute that he is not at the clinic for the rest of his life for letting his 14 year old daughter date a 17 year old. That or he should be drowned like a cat.

The boy should be allowed to step up to his responsibilities. Yes, it does take two to tango. Jail serves nothing but wasted years. Although they are both young, they consented.
Back in ancient china they wouldn't have stood a chance. ANYONE found having sexual liasons before marriage were drowned in pig caskets...that's BOTH of the PARTICIPANTS. I'm not saying I advocate this, but I do believe that they should face the consequences of their actions, whatever they decide. It is nobodies business but theirs and their immediate families.

I must say, I really like TJ's answer... Cheers to you!
You know that saying... _ _ _ _ happens? Well so does sugar. It's not very responsible to be pregnant at 14 because they are both still children themselves. However, children are blessings and there are always solutions to such problems. Adoption Agencies, for example.
