Lethargic, deep breathing seems to be hard for him, just urinated in front of me on my bathroom floor. I think I should take him to emergency tonight?

You should take him to the ER. Lethargy and deep breathing can be a sign of pain, or he could have a heart condition and have trouble breathing. I would take him ASAP.

You are thinking right. Take him to the vet as soon as you can. Even though Shih tzus do a lot of sleeping, and sometimes have some breathing problems due to their short snout, what you describe doesn't sound normal. It sounds excessive, and should be taken care of immediately. The urinating may just be a way to get your attention that he is not well, so go to the vet ASAP.

I also have 2 shih tzus. Both have been occasionally prone to breathing probs. We did take our little boy in for an ER after hours visit, and all they did was tell us to wash his face (may reduce allergens) and if we needed to we could give him a low dose of antihistamines. (benadryl)
The deep breathing may also be due to the short snout and makes them sound like they are kind of snorting.
If you are truly worried- I would go... better to be safe. Good luck!

I do not know about the urinating part ,but the rest of the symptoms sounds like croupe and or asthma. If it is a cold night where you are,I suggest you take him out into the night air and see if his breathing gets better. If it doesn't........take him to the vet.....good luck to you both.............xo
