Sorry for the re-post, but I realized that this would be easier and more accurate for people to answer if I explained myself...

I love a guy, and my sister hates him. We were together, but not anymore because my family seems to disagree with that. But my sister and her husband of all of them seem to hate him the most. I've noticed that they would rather me hate this guy than love him. We're Reformed Christians, so that kind of made me think...hence the question: Is it worse to love something bad or hate something good?
Since they don't seem to think he's good.
Although that might be a matter of opinion..

Let me tell you something that some Christians seem to not understand: love is NEVER bad. If your family were such upstanding Christians, they would know that they shouldn't hate anybody, but they seem more interested in keeping you single than in living the Christian values they espouse.

*shakes her head* Crap like this makes me more and more glad every day that I am a Pagan.

Opinion is one thing. Love means to be patient, Kind Goodness, (look in 1 Corinthians13). There is a reason your family is against this man. What is that reason, is it a christian reason or a secular, ie they don't like his hair, cars or address.

Family usually have your best interests at heart. If he is a committed christian, and I mean committed, ask question. You will be able to see his faith by his life. don't get dragged into something for ungodly reason. Prayer is a powerful tool. God answers prayer.

Remember Jesus said
Seek you first the Kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you.

Hating to Love

It is a sin to hate anything other than sin. Maybe your sister and brother-in-law know something about your boyfriend that you don't know. Maybe they feel if they talk with you about it that you will go back and tell him. I was faced with something similar in my life. I disregarded everyone's opinion and married him anyway. He turned out to be abusive, an adulterer, and not a very good father. Same yourself the heartache. Sometimes our loves ones can see things in people that 'love' blinds us to see. No one is perfect. I would suggest praying and asking God to show you the way. He will do it. May God Bless You.

Well is he good? Or is he a scrub that no family that loves you would want there family member with. Does he know the lord? And is he trying in life, or is he a flake and a scrub?????That will lead the right direction, you can love somebody and not have to be in a relationship that is damaging to you.God has a better match out there.

Reformed Christians? If I know what that means, I'm stunned that your family would wish you to hate anyone. You also say that they don't seem to think he's good. Again, unless my understanding of Reformed Christians is skewed, who are they to judge him anyway? The power of discernment to keep one safe and recognize evil and ill intent is one thing, judging is entirely another issue. Curious thing, Reformed Christians.

I thin kit's worse to love something bad. Because all that will lead to is idolatry, which is a sin. Hating something good wont neccessarily lead to sin. I hate onions, but they're good for you. And who's to say what's good and what's not? I'm not sure the context you are searching for.

This is also a matter of opinion. If they hating your boyfried is good in your opining, then hating is also good. But as you know hating is not always ( mostly) not good.

I guess its family first & they probably do have good valid reasons for hating him.. If not ask them why they do... If still no valid answer then i guess its easy for you to love something bad, because they would have somewhat forced you into it! good luck.

It is worse to hate something good. Hate is very negative and adversely affects you.
