On average, how long does it take a person to learn to box well enough to get licensed in the state of California as an amateur boxer and be permitted to participate in competitions? (I am a beginner now and plan to train about 5-6 hours a week)

In my experience, it takes about 8 months of basic training, including sparring, to be ready for competition. You can register with USA Boxing in California at any time. If you need a contact for your area, please email me at mel@amateurboxing.com and let me know what city you live in in California.
