I'm sure you kittens want some fresh air and want to know what is going on out there. Just like we do. I would let them outside everynow and then so they can play around and get some fresh air. If you are afraid of them running away just let them out for a few minutes under your supervision so that they dont climb the fence or something. Just give them enough time to explore and romp around and i'm sure they will be fine. Then round them all up with some treats or food and lure them inside. This way they know what it is like outside and they wont be so curious. But, this could backfire and they would want to be outside even more to sniff around and play so it could go either way.
Another reason could be that when they hear you come to the door they rush to the door to greet you. So they try to get outside to be the first one to greet you. I would try to make a calm entry to the house so they dont get all hyped up. If you enter calmly and dont pay very much attention to them each time you enter they will stop coming to the door since they know they wont get any attention. After you put your things down or relax then go and greet them, pet them, feed them or what ever you want to do. This should help calm things down.
You coul also crate them when you leave or put them in a room that way they cant get to the door when you come in. But you probably dont want to crate them all when they can be in the house with more room.
Those are about the only things I can think of right now. You could consult a trainer or even your vet. To see what else you could do. I hope these ideas help you out or help you think of better ones. Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

This is really hard and I have had mine scoot past me when young. We tried keeping a spray bottle just outside the door so we could have it in hand and start squirting as soon as we opened the door. Fortunately, wasn't winter and the water didn't freeze. Also, we made loud noises as we entered, beating and banging on the door. Fortunately, we have no close neighbors. Also, as soon as we were safely in side, we made a big production of going directly to the kitty cooky can and doling them out, trying to make the kitchen THE place to be when the outer door was opened. I'm not sure if any one thing worked better than another, but eventually they do quit trying to get out.
I am a firm believer that we are all better off if they (cats) stay indoors. Good luck.

Well, first off, kittens should have a special place and not the run of the house! Kittens are very curious creatures and can get into all kinds of trouble having the run of the house while you are away. And, as you have discovered, they hear you coming through the door and naturally they want to come over and try to run outside as you are coming in.
I keep my young kitties in a bedroom with their water, food, and catbox (litter box) and various toys. I make sure there is nothing dangerous in the room. I put them in the room when I am ready to leave the house, and bring them out when I come home.
You should try this. It is a good way to train your kittens about boundaries and house rules.

Leave a spray bottle near your front door, and whenever your cats try to scamper outside, spray them gently with the water. Always make sure to spray them as they commit the act, so they know not to do it again! I hope this aids you and your kittens! Have a safe, warm holiday season.

Pixie has the right of it... that's what I do with my two cats - they are in my bedroom when we go out or when I cannot keep an eye on them. They have water bowl and litter box and toys in there but they usually nap or perch by the window and watch birds and squirrels.

Pack a squirt gun, and come in shooting. They will learn to stay away after only a couple times.
