I signed up on a dating site and as best as I try to have only 1 contact I am corresponding with, it does not work. Sometimes I do not get a response to contacts I request, and I am contacted by someone else, which I accept , and then the original contact I sent is accepted.
Other times I get quite a few contact requests , all of which seem good and there seems to be now way to distinguish them on paper at least. What is the proper thing to do in these situations- is writing to multiple people equivalent to dating multiple people at the same time ?

it's perfectly fine. Online dating isn't really dating. It's pre-dating.

People online are so fickle, you say one thing that's off--necessarily bad, just off, and they run away. So take it with a grain of salt, and talk to multiple people to up your odds.

I don't think it is equivalent to dating multiple people, because you are still getting to know them. You might not want to get into that kind of a relationship with them. It's just like dating around.

Write to as many people at one time as you feel you can handle. You are not committed to any of them, and as you've already learned, it's hard to find the right one online, let alone even get a response! Good luck, though. I hope you find the right one.
