Probably
I say that because it is likely that if we had allowed the Japanese to surrender without dropping the nukes, we would have had a different reason for their use soon after the war.
It set a dangerous precedent that has been followed to this day. The use of foreign casualties to promote a message to an unrelated third party.
We could be Heroes today if we would stop using our military and Secret agencies to dictate the present and futures of Sovereign Nations around the world.
What if we made an Army of aid workers, and all we knew how to do was help people? Saving millions instead of killing them. Be the most powerful Humanitarian force in the world. Those would be heroes.
BRING ALL OF OUR TROOPS HOME NOW!

first off all only about 240,000 people died from fat man and little boy in Nagasaki and hiroshima. It is true that truman may have anly dropped the bomb because of the 2 billion dollars spent on the project. He may have known about japan wanting to surrender anyways, but he may have needed to taken in the fact that more people would have died on both sides had he not done it.
You may also want to think about the fact that he had planned on using 13 atomic bombs all together and only used 3
One was for the trinity test n New Mexico and the other 2 were for war.

Heroism is not all about killing and suffering. Heroes are born everywhere, everytime in many ways. Americans who fought and lost their lives in foreign shores, in Bataan and Corregidor, during WWII are reveered as heroes even before Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

HUH????
As for those that say the Japs wanted to surrender. Spare me your delusions, the Army even tried to kidnap the Emperor to prevent his radio message about the surrender from going out. I really wish most of you folks had not played hooky in history class.

It was either drop the bomb; or have to go into Japan and slaughter ALL of the Japaneese civillians that would try to attack our soldeirs w/ sticks and stones because they were BRAINWASHED. So you could drop one bomb; or have to go in and kill ALL of the Japaneese and have some American casualties.

Our Military are always heroes as it should be. They didn't start the war. We should have nuked Iraq months ago and many of our soldiers would still be alive.

no because we would of invaded and killed millions more because civilians would of fought back or killed themselves and we would of lost a lot of men doing it and we killed more people with conventional bomb and fire bombs
