Look for the +/- on the drive. If you are doing Video or Large Files use DVD's. For small folder and Pictures Use CD's. Other than that you might get RW if you plan to change or add more file to a CD/DVD. Consider cost and needs when buying. You can get a large rack of CD-/+R for 10.00. Where you only get 10 if you get RW. You get 5 DVD for 10.00. Where you pay 20.00 for the RW.

dvd's come in positive and negative poles but all the burners now days will burn either polarity thus giving dvd+r and dvd-r either will work, and as far as cd's go cdr's for if your only going to burn to the disk once and cd-rw if your are going to burn to it more than once.

for cd it really dosent mater, just go for a good deal, and for dvd it sorta the same exept that personaly i get beter quality with dvd-r

Staples has their own brand and they seem it be affordable and work ok.
