I know there have been issues with the older ones, but I actually bought an LCD because I wanted to avoid the issues. I was thinking of taking it back and getting a Plasma because they are cheaper. Anyone know any that have a reputation of not burning out?

The newer plasmas and LCD sets both have expected lifetimes of 50,000 to 60,000 hours of use. Their reliability is equivalent. The plasma's brightness will dim slowly over that period, but plasmas are so bright anyway, it will not be noticeable. If you do get a plasma, keep the brightness down to reduce its decay (the same was true of the now almost obsolete CRT sets). Before getting a plasma, check the resolution: you can get LCD sets with 1080p displays (1920x1080 pixels); low cost plasmas are still in the 720-line range (1024x768 pixels is still common), and the 1080-line plasmas are expensive.

When we had a T.V. repair man out to repair our set,I told him we were contemplating purchasing a plasma. He laughed and said "Oh please do! I'll see you about twice a year." Hope that helps.
