You got it, eat properly and exersise. You migh wanna take a closer look at what you are eating, how much calories you are consuming, and how late in the day is your last meal of the day. Your last meal of the day should be at least 4 hours before sleep. Eliminate all the "empty" calories like soda and greasy burgers. They have little to no vitamis, no fiber, no minerals, mostly calories. Replace all your sodas with real fruit juices or water. Replace all your burgers with healthy meals.

The theory is simple. You have to burn more calories that you intake. Burn calories by exercising, intake less calories with a good diet. Since you are active, take a look at your diet.

It was eye opening for me to track everything that I ate for a couple of months. I even was measuring/weighing things to determine how many calories they had.

There is a simple calculation for how many calories you need. It's based on age, height, weight, and how active you are. Search for 'caloric need' or 'calorie calculator' on Yahoo. Find out how many calories you need per day, then subtract 500. This is how many you can intake to lose 1 lb a week.

Then start tracking your calories and stay under this number. Make sure to choose foods with high, lean protein because you will feel full longer. Stop drinking soda and juice. Drink only water. Quit fast food completely. Then start walking more and then try jogging when you are able. Finally start going to the gym if you are motivated.

You will be amazed how much better you will feel. Exercising is the hard part. Now you just have to control your diet. There are so many temptations and no one has ever taught your proper diet. Learn from the people here.

It shouldn't take you any less than 10 weeks. Meaning, if you drop more than 20 pounds in less than 10 weeks it's unhealthy for you. Plan on at least 12 weeks (3 months) of working out and eating healthy for you to lose that much weight. Probably longer though to be honest. Dropping weight fast isn't healthy. Your mother should know that and not want you to race to drop it. Besides, if you dropped all that weight to quickly you'd have a lot of loose skin and a belly button piercing wouldn't look too schwanky.

Who said you need to lose 20 lbs? How tall are you? What is your BMI? Have you had your body fat tested? If you really truly are over-fat, even though you play basketball 10 hours a week, then you need to take a serious look at what you eat. Soda pop, chips, bread, sugar-like products can cause you to store energy as fat. Eating whole foods, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, can help you metabolize more of the calories and moderates fluctuations in your blood sugar.

The thing that people dont realize is that losing weight healthily is a slow process that is PRIMARILY based on eating right, and exercising, I hate to say it but theres pretty much no easy way out of it, unless you have money for surgery

Eating right and exercising is the right way. If you're doing that much b-ball, then you fine with the exercise. Just eat healthy - and enough - and you'll do fine.
