What would the Christian Church say about Cryonics?

I've always been taught that people will be pulled from their graves, reconstitued, and brought back to life at the rapture. I don't see anything that makes "pulled from a grave" any different from "pulled from a dewar". I don't see a problem with the rapture and Cryonics.

The only "religious" issue I can imagine with Cryonics is it could be misconstrued as a lack of faith, a backup plan in case we are wrong on the whole Jesus/Eternal Life thing. Following that logic though, CPR and heart transplants and a whole lot of other life saving procedures would be wrong too.

Cryonics is a medical procedure to store people whose bodies have been irreparably damaged today, so that the damage can be repaired in the future. It should be viewed as a long-term version of CPR.

As an extension of the application of technology there are a number of people who are Christian within the cryonics movement who look at cryonics as an extension of Gods' will. That is to say, a pacemaker will extend life of a terminal cardiac patient to stay on this earth and do Gods good works by spreading his word and other Christian virtues, then so too might cryonics be a tool to extend life for the same purposes. If God wants to "call someone home" to Heaven, it is well within His power to do so regardless of any intervening technology applied, whether that be CPR, a clot busting drug, organ transplant or cryonics.
However, ultimately, cryonics does conflict with religion. As religion is defined by faith, it so requires a "leap of faith". Any Imam, Rabbi or Minister will tell you this.
That "leap of faith" is the decision an individual makes to accept without imperical evidence or proof the existance of a supernatural realm beyond the ability of science to explore or explain. It is the stopping point where science ends in its' ability to explain the natural world and a supernatural world of "divinely revealed" knowledge not subject to the tools of logic or scientific scruitiny. As cryonics relies solely on science to understand and mainfest itself in tools of technology based upon the laws of nature, cryonics is emminently rational and within the realm of reason. The supernatural is outside the realm of science (we call this the realm of the irrational or unreasonable [inscruitable to those who are polite]). As such, cryonics and all science is in some fundamental opposition to religion.

Honestly, I do not think so... but, the question is...if I believe in God and His deity...why, would I care about trying to freeze my body for a cure... death is just a portal of passing into a whole new realm with God... so, the thing is...cryonics, well, it is just a waste to me.

They would say that the soul is eternal and the body is corruptible and to try to save the body is sacrilege.

Hopefully they would say what everyone who has looked into it says - it doesn't work. Don't waste your money.
