I need the name of a charity to donate to. I know there are a million in the world and they are all deserving, but if you have a reason that one you are affiliated with/believe in is particularly deserving, I'd love to hear it...

Consider donating to Amnesty International. It's a worldwide organization that protects and defends human rights around the world. I've been a longtime Amnesty supporter and activist - and I recommend donating to Amnesty because it is VERY effective! For recent Amnesty success stories - go to http://www.amnestyusa.org/success/index.do

To donate and become a member-
http://www.amnestyusa.org/
http://www.amnestyusa.org/join

text from the website:
"Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for human rights. Our work is based on careful research and on the standards agreed by the international community. We are independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion.

Amnesty International mobilizes volunteer activists — people who give freely of their time and energy in solidarity with those whose rights have been abused. We have more than one million members, supporters and subscribers in over 140 countries. We come from all walks of life, with widely different political and religious views, united by our determination to work for a world where everyone enjoys human rights.

What does Amnesty International do?
Amnesty International works independently and impartially to promote respect for all the human rights set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Amnesty International believes that human rights are interdependent and indivisible – all human rights should be enjoyed by all people at all times, and no one set of rights can be enjoyed at the expense of other rights. It concentrates on ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination.

Historically, the main focus of Amnesty International's campaigning has been:
-- to free all prisoners of conscience
-- to ensure a prompt and fair trial for all political prisoners
-- to abolish the death penalty, torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment
-- to end extrajudicial executions and "disappearances"
-- to fight impunity by working to ensure perpetrators of such abuses are brought to justice in accordance with international standards."

"Food for the Poor" is a great charity I've donated too. It helps supply food, water, shelter, and other necessities to some of the poorest people in our world- mainly in South America. It's a wonderul charity that makes it a point to do much of its work for children, all of who are poor and defenseless, and many of which have lost parents, brothers and sisters to disease and famine, and plenty who have been orphaned and live in adverse conditions. These people need our help more than most as they die of preventable causes (malnutrition, dehydration and diseases from unclean drinking water and unhealthy living conditions) and the great thing is that 96% of donations go right to serving the people who need it, rather than into some charity founders pocket. Another great charity I've given to is Catholic Relief Services, which also works with the poorest and most needy people in the world- Either of these charities would be wonderful. Also, any money donated to Food for the Poor before December 31 will be matched by a generous donor- up to a half million dollars (I believe that was the amount I read)- either way, check out there website

go to www.worldvisiongifts.org
What they do there, is you donate your money, but you get to chose what kind of thing you want your money to go to. Like you can put money towards buying livestock for a family, that can improve their lives tenfold. They also have stuff like drilling a well for clean drinking water, and small business loans for women so they can provide for their families. I think a VERY important one is helping kids that were kidnapped and forced into the sex slave industry, and this donation helps to provide an education for them so they can provide a better life for themselves.
There is ALL KINDS of stuff you can choose on there, plus, if you can't afford the whole thing (a well is thousands of dollars) you can donate just a little bit, which is called a "share". But, say like, a goat is only $75. A pig is $195. A sheep is $105. A storage system for safe water is only $25. Basic immunizations (shots) for a child is $41. Malaria prevention kit for a whole family is $20...the possibilities are endless.

I would never donate to the Red Cross (other than blood) because my whole community was in a situation where we really needed help after a hurricane last year, and they denied our whole county, even though major portions of the town were completely wiped out, and they led us to believe that we would get help, so thousands of people went up to the fairgrounds and waited in the hot sun all day, only to be told at the end of the day that they had changed their minds.

I even have been to weddings the place they have made a donation in lieu of favors. They placed a card - very very reminiscent of a place placing card which reported what they did and what charity they picked. One wedding ceremony did this for a breast maximum cancers society and each card had a pink ribbon pin related. i don't be attentive to approximately this for weddings. this is a great gesture yet you could make the donation besides instead of coming up it a want. some human beings experience like the bride and groom "cheaped out" whilst it got here to favors with the aid of fact no person is conscious of how lots replaced into unquestionably donated and that they do no longer come away out of your wedding ceremony with something. some think of this is a large theory. i do no longer care the two way extremely.

I like WWF and ASPCA because I think animals need help too! ASPCA tries to stop animal abuse. I would also donate to the Red Cross and other worldwide organizations that help the whole world. A hospital like St.Jude's is always an option!

The links below will take you to two very worthwhile causes. To say the genocide in Dafur is very real and extremely disturbing is an understatement. It is hard to believe that we are in the 21st century and murders of innocent men, women, and children are being committed on people because of their skin color. Please look into Save Dafur.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. That is what Heifer International does...they feed people for a lifetime. Please check them out as well.

Thank you for caring and being a part of the solution.
