It depends where you live and what you are into. If you do something it will probably be for the adults, the only thing you have to take into consideration is how long the kids can last. Maybe you can have an early party with your friends. Everyone brings there kids, and you hire a babysitter to watch them at the party. Or if you don't know anyone, you can go out and enjoy nature or left over christmas light's in the car. You don't have to celibrate it at midnight, just keep the spirt alive of doing something new that's good for you and your family.

Hi -

We were in a similar situation a few years back when our daughter was younger. Here's what we did.

Since she was able to keep awake at the time, we celebrated together. I picked up one of those party packs you can find at the drug store, or Michaels Art/Craft supply. The ones with the party hats, noise makers and confetti poppers.

When midnight approached, we all put on the party hats, armed everyone with a popper and noise maker and turned on the TV to do a count down. When the "big ball" fell and new year had begun, we showed our little one how to celebrate! Popped poppers, made noise and jumped up and down. It was a lot of fun.

We also had a bottle of champagne on hand for my husband and I and made sure we had a few sips to bring in the new year. Also had some of the martinellies bubbling apple cider poured into a sippy cup for our daughter so she wouldn't feel left out.

It turned out to be a lot of fun. And now it's a tradition. Except that we now invite a few friends over and make a bigger celebration of it. With a little planning, plenty of food and lots of party favors we have a great time on new years eve, right in the safety of our own home. It's a great tradition and we love it!

Stay at home and have a little family party. It's too dangerous nowadays to go out anywhere. Maybe have a nice dinner out but be back home before all the drunks get on the road. You're 2 year old won't be able to make it to midnight to ring it in so then you can have some "private time" with your spouse to ring in the new year the fun way!

I work at a hotel, and since we are really small, we have a family party. The kids all come and swim at the indoor pool, we have games set up in one meeting room so families can play, then at midnight we have a toast with champagne for the adults and sparkling cider for the kids. After the festivities, then you don't have to worry about driving home. We did it the last two years and it has been tons of fun.

If you wanna actually go out, you can go to Medieval Times & let him scream his head off! He'll have fun. That's what I'm doing with mine. And plus you don't have to sit at home & be completely bored. They have a 4pm, 7pm & 9:45 show. The kids will have fun, & so will you. That's what we're doing. My son is almost 4yrs. That's all I could find - ideas for new years eve with children. Hope this helps.

Stay home or go to a friends house. There is no where logical to take a baby at midnight. My kids have all slept through New Years for the past 6 years. They will again this year. Start some new tradiotions for you and your family.

Well I have a 3yr old. This year and last year we bought some of those little snapper things. He can throw them or stomp on them
and make a popping sound those are pretty safe and are fascinating to my son. He also likes to watch me do the other fireworks. I love the artillery shells. They are a little loud but are so big and beautiful. But that's usually what we do for new years.

We plan a party wit close friends and they bring thier children. We make dinner and we watch movies and play boards games and listen to music. The kids tend to go to bed about 10 and then grown ups might have a few drinks. We watch th ball drop and send everyone home. Either do that, or get a sitter.

Cook a pork roast and sauerkraut to eat for good luck (Pennsylvania Dutch tradition), get a good movie to watch after your child goes to bed, watch the festivities on TV at midnight, open a bottle of champagne and toast each other, then make love. Happy New Year!
