I know it sounds strange but if he chews raw onion for approx 3 minutes (If he can't chew, a small piece of raw onion directly applied to the spot of the toothache, will ease toothache pain almost immediately but it won't last as long as the 3 min.), a clove of Garlic dipped in rock salt, put ice cube on the aching tooth or on the nearest cheek for 15-20 minutes at least 3 or 4 times a day (unless the cold hurts it more then don't), keep his head elevated to decrease the pressure in the area, and most importantly don't let him poke at it with anything, be it his tongue, a toothpick or anything else. Apply an OTC antiseptic containing benzocaine directly to the irritated tooth and gum to temporarily relieve pain.
I hope some of this helps him get through the two weeks.

A healthy person with no liver issues, etc can take 400mg of motrin and 500 mg or tylenol every 3 hours. Or double that and alternate every 3 hours so you are taking 100mg of tylenol a min of every 6 hours and 800mg of motrin every 6 hours. Not more then 4G of tylenol (thats 8 x 500mg doses) and 3.2G of motrin (thats 8 x 400mg doses. You can also use over the counter topical pain stuff like ambesol. I would call the dentist. He may be able to cover it with bonding material or a temporary crown just until his benefits are back in. You don't want him to damage that nerve. If he does then he's going to need a root canal and that is going to be a pain.
He SHOULD NOT TRY TO PULL IT OUT! That could cause even more issues. He could end up with part of the root stuck in his gums and then will need surgery.
It is probably worth the money to go and have them just cover it for now. It shouldn't cost too much.
Good luck!!
Until he gets it fixed.. tell him nothing hot or cold... warm is ok and salt water *may* help. It may not.
Taking that much motrin / tylenol for that long is NOT a good idea. Tylenol is hard on the liver and motrin is hard on the stomach. They can do a lot of damage over time.

One thing you need to find out if it is infected. If he pushes on the gum or the tooth itself and something oozes out or if he gets a bad taste from it then it is infected. He will have to be put on antibiotics for 10days before an appt. The infection blocks the anethestic that the dentist will give to fix or pull the tooth. If he can get on some penicillin within three days the pain should subside which will allow him to tolerate it until his appt. Some dentist will get u in on emergency basis then do the procedure after his benefits kick in but they can get the pain under control until then.

broken tooth dont necessary mean a bad tooth.
it could be the nerves of the tooth, get a tea bag and put on the tooth, take a motrin or motin 600 or 800
If all fails, cut an aloe vera leaf and apply to the tooth , instant relief.
U can buy some oragel to numb it from the store or get a bottle of cloves from the spice section and put cloves on it.

call his dentist and ask about delaying his bill until the benefits kick in...if your bf continues, he will get an infection and this would be bad. this wont get better.....he needs dental treatment right away. maybe there is also a provision for emergency treatment as well. ASK the Dentist or the benefit nurse line. depending on the tooth - he may have to have it pulled out...and this isnt very expensive either...good luck!

You can try putting a clove on it, but it should be cared for. Call around to see if there's a teaching hospital with a dental department, sometimes they use volunteers to train doctors. I heard of somebody getting cheaper dental work this way, but it may only have been a cleaning. But a clove directly on the tooth helps.

The chemist sells a product call "Eugonal" (oil of cloves) I think you will have to ask for it as it is hard to find. Its not cheap but your boyfriend should have some relief with this product. to use it put a couple of drops on a piece of cotton wool and put it into the area where the tooth is broken. it does taste terrible, but it should be ok for a while, I have used it before and alot of dentists still use it on a regular basis. Hope this helps.

Besides pain medication, there is not much to do. I remember when I had a bad tooth ache with no insurance, I found a dentist that pulled my tooth without insurance. I had it done with payment arrangements. Toothaches are a killer. I hope he feels better. Maybe he can talk to his job about expediating his insurance faster.

Seriously there's not much to do. Over the counter pain med.s, cold packs, rest, and pray!
