We removed some of them but it is hurting her to the point she backs away from us. My roommate pulled one but busted the body off and head is still in. What should I do to remove the ticks without hurting her or hurting the babies and how should I get the head out? What is best to use to get ticks removed without contaminating the teets so they babies can feed?

oh my....that is terrible if there is a lot you REALLY have to get them off...there really is not a way that you can do it unpainfully.. to help losen the ticks from the skin, take a needle that is hot and lay it on their backs and when they start moving just grab. Have two people with you one pulling out the ticks and the other rubbing the dogs calm spot (usually on the front of the dogs neck)
The head of the tick should be ok, just keep an eye on it and if it starts looking infected then you should take her to the vets....i would reccommend getting some frontline or advantix (advantage dont repel ticks) and keep it on her...good luck

oh, before you try pulling them out, give her a hot bath with some flea and tick shampoo, that should also lossen them so they are easier to pull out

Get the poor thing to the vet, you need to get that head out and fast, then while at the vet have them teach you the proper way to remove the ticks, the mother dog has enough sucking vital nourishment's from her with the pups and needs to have those ticks removed at once

Before you'de even remove a tick try suffocating it with a generous amount of vicks vapour rub or cheaper substitute. it has to release it's grip to move out , then you should be able to pull them out easy. I doubt the stuff will harm the puppies if you are supposed to inhale it off your chest! As for leaving the heads in the body , this runs a serious risk of the tick head entering the dogs bloodstream and poisoning it, this could be fatal. So seeing a vet , although expensive , will rule out the possibility of losing her.

Ticks should have been removed before the pups were born. Ask the vet for advice. Do not use any flea and tick products. I would try using tweezers, buit if there are 100's of ticks it will take awhile. If there are just a few, it won't take long.

A dog that has heavy tick infection can becom anemic.from blood loss. she doesn.t need this stress while she is nursing 10 puppies.they will infest the puppies also. I would not use any chemical treatment at this point until i got advice from a vet.
he can advise you how to properly remove them and the proper treatment. However, When you call, he is going to advise you to BRING YOUR DOG IN SO SHE CAN BE CHECKED which is the proper advice. Accept no other advice, since this is a serious issue.

Put alcohol on a cotton ball and hold it on the ticks. You have to remove ALL the ticks. Be very thorough, and don't pull them off if they're deeply embedded because like you said you can break them off and they'll leave a sore. Just clean and disinfect if the head breaks off. I'd use mycotracin antibiotic salve on those.
Use the alcohol to make them release.
Bathe the dog too after you get the ticks off and do everything you can to prevent them from getting back on her. Ticks are VERY bad news for you and your dog!

Your dog needs to go to the vet. First, the ticks need to be addressed. Then, she needs to be spayed. You should not be allowing a tick ridden dog to breed. It's unethical and just wrong.

Ok, going to the vet will probably not work because the dog will be very protective from her puppies. So you hould call a vet and ask them what to do . They will tell you.
