I assume that they have criminals housed in the county jail that commited a crime. You have no privacy and have to use the bathroom where everyone can see you. You might get three squares a day, but they are not the best you have eaten. You do not have a comfy bed to sleep in. There are others there that have diseases you could be exposed to. You could possibly be raped there. You could possibly be part of the road crew picking up trash along the roadway. It more than likely smells really bad there from unwashed people.

When I think of jail, I do not necessarily think of the normal stereotype of indentured servitude in some hell hole. Many jail facilities (if not most to all) are giving criminals (yes, I know that they are people too, but if the label fits...) better lives than many in their homeland can or could ever afford. Opportunities to become further educated and skill building to name a few. Also, how many people in your country get 3 square meals a day and a guaranteed roof over your head? No bills. Opportunities and privileges exist for good behaviour. No, jail is not a picnic, but in some circumstances it is/was a better deal than a portion of their respective country. Yes, jail is hell for those who have deserved it and it really should be fair to be treated in the manner that earned you a spot in there in the first place. But hey....that is a whole other question.

My assumptions are the followong:
1) you become an inmate
2) you use abnormal amounts of vasalene
3) you are someone's lover to have and to hold
4 ) you hear loud shreeks in the night only to find it is YOU
5) you take 10 second showers
6 ) your cellmate/husband wants to "share" thoughts at 3 in the morning
7) you decide to get a tatoo by your husband as a sign of togetherness
8) you are buying cigarettes and you do not even smoke
9) you and your cellmate go for long walks in circles in the cell- just because
10 ) your husband wants to wash your back because you can not reach it.

You have to have balls and a lot of courage to be in jail. If you show any weakness, then sooner or later if you are going to be there for awhile, you will become someone's "girlfriend". You should spread this message to those so called gansters on the street right now who haven't spent any time behind bars. Once they get there then you will see for yourself just how brave and strong they really are..........

They feed you plain bread and water in a tin cup and sometimes have to put the fire hose on you for barfing or defecating and the waste goes down the drain in the middle of the concrete floor. They throw you an old shhit green wool Army blanket circa WWII to keep you warm over your wet clothing.

No more assumptions, having worked in a state corrections facility. Makes you realize alot of people are doing time for things alot of us have done, we just didn't get caught, or had more $ for a better attorney. IE: drinking and driving

-jail rape, if you are not protect by a larger group you will be someone's *****
-must join a gang or side with a particular race in order to 'survive'
--must learn to make shanks for protection
- there's nothing to be but work out
All assumptions as you stated because i've never been there

That I don't ever want to spend any time there... well, maybe as a visitor... but not as a "guest."
edit** (I HAVE been a visitor... it's nothing to do with stereotyping and such... I don't want to do ANYTHING that would land me behind bars. Life is hard enough as a law-abiding citizen... I don't need a criminal record of ANY kind to make life that much more difficult).
