change your screen resolution to 720 p or 1080 p or 1080i or use componant inputs or hdmi inputs

You need an HDTV tuner from your cable company.
A lot of local stations provide HD channels but the easiest is to get the HD converter from the cable guys.
THen you need a component cable set which has a red, green blue cable along with the red and white for audio. this hooks into the set then into the cable box.
Viola' HD

Or you can go the HDMI if your tv has it and the cable company supports it. That is just onel plug for audio and video. signal is still HD.

If you already have a HDTV, then you need the following:


A HDTV antenna, which can receive only local HD singals.

(Or)


Component Video cables and a Cable Subcription to comcast or dish network or direct tv where you can get a lot more HD channels.

If you bought an HDTV all you need is to watch channels that are broadcasted in HDTV Format.
