Hi there, I am having problems with my USB.
I got an ipod for my xmas and when I plug the usb into the computer, it is detected so that part is ok. the add new hardware wizard appears and when i click on next it says it cannot be installed as if cant find the correct software. the ipod didnt come with a software cd as you just download the program from the apple website. When i start the program and plug in my usb cable the program is ment to detect it automatically but this is not happening.
This also happens when I connect my usb cable for my mobile phone, the program is ment to detect it and its not doing it. I don't think there is a physical error with the usb but an error in the programs actually detecting it.
Anytime I plug in a usb cable, the add new hardware wizard comes up but wont let me install as its saying it cannot find the corect software.
PLEASE HELP !!!!
THANKYOU :)

hi there, many people have said it is the problem with the drivers, but it is not because there are no specific drivers for the ipod nano, I have downloaded itunes 7 and that should detect the ipod automatically and its not doing it. the computer is actually detecting the ipod but jst wont let me complete the installation

Firstly, is the program you downloaded the newest version of Itunes (7+) ? the name of the program you are referring to would help in analysis alittle.
Secondly, remove the ipod from the computer. THEN start itunes up, and THEN plug the ipod into the computer. The ipod should then say "do not disconnect" or something along those lines. Itunes should then try communicating with the ipod. If it doesn't then click "file" and "sync ipod". It should at that point attempt to communicate with the ipod.
USB issue:
What type of computer do you use? Windows based or Mac Based? How old is the computer? Some computers that are slightly older are using USB 1.0 (or around 1.1) But newer technology more and more is using USB 2.0. Sometimes also if you replace hardware such as motherboards, your former USB2.0 ports aren't recognized as such and need to download drivers which update those ports to 2.0.
Another possibility is that the USB port you are using may be faulty for some reason (it happens...). Have you tried plugging the ipod or cell phone into different ports. If you are using ports in the front of the computer, instead, try using ports in the back of the computer. Try each and every port, and even try restarting the computer and trying some of the ports again. If it still doesn't work, consider this: printers, mice, keyboard, joysticks, and a variety of other devices use such ports, do those devices work? if so, then if could be just user error, and you'd need to just make sure you're following the directions properly. If those devices don't work, then you might have a techinical problem with the computer. Let me know :) hope this reply is of some sort of assistance.

Well, I am not an expert with Macintosh, since I hate it, you should have gotten a normal MP3 player. Most likely, the computer cannot find/doesn't have the driver installed for the ipod. There is no driver specific to the iPod. Windows just uses the generic external disk drive driver. What happen was that there was probably an error while installing and that's why it doesn't work. Go to the Device manager by right-clicking on the My Computer button on the desktop, click properties, then click on Hardware and Device Manager. Once there, if you see an exclamation point next to any items listed, it means that there is a problem. Click on it and uninstall it. Then just try it again. If you are having problems, call Mac and tell them you are having a problem. They most likely will be able to help. Now, most phones do not have a driver installed for the computer. You would have to buy the driver from the manufacturer. For example, if its Motorola, go to motorola.com and buy it. I have a Razr and I have to buy it. Good Luck!

Printers at the instant are not somewhat comparable to different gadgets. in case you start up off swapping them around USB ports they are in a position to fail. you will could make beneficial that the OS or and utility is seeing the main remarkable port. now and returned a software could have the printer port indexed because of the fact the paralell port as a replace of a USB port. you will could flow into the printer config and make beneficial that it somewhat is pointing at a USB port and not the parallel port.

check for driver issues.
start -> control panel -> system -> device manager. If you see yellow exclimation marks near anything with usb you need to re-install drivers. Possibly this is the USB card/motherboard support that does not have the drivers.

Try searching for (phone name) drivers or ipod drivers. if you bought your ipod, it should have come with an installation cd.

either you downloaded software for the wrong Operating system or version of windows, or you didn't properly install the driver.
