It's a region 6 dvd and im trying to convert my toshiba mw24fm1 tv with vcr/dvd installed to region-free.

The only way to do this is to alter or flash the hardware firmware with region-free firmware. Altering firmware is at your own risk and might be breaking some laws as well.

I would recommend purchasing a region-free DVD player rather than trying to alter your TV. This can easily result in a really big paper weight.

If you do get an external DVD player, download VLC media player and set it as the default DVD player. I've read somewhere that might work to play other region DVDs. It's a free app so you got nothing to lose other than the time trying.

Yamaha DVD players i do believe have a region free thing...
