and lived in a trailor but dressed nice and had a somewhat crazy family and I was unsure about how I should treat a girl based on the way some had reacted in the past or would none of this matter if you were truly in love with this kind of guy?

Okay i dated a guy who was shy and came from a family with so many problems and altough we arnt together anymore, he treated me great. i was his first girlfriend and he had no idea how to act but he was still amazing. So yeah, I'd date someone like you because I have.
