Jesus came to fulfill the Old Testament. Right?

The Laws in the Old Testament do not apply to Christians. Right?

The Ten Commandments are Laws of the Old Testament. Right?

Why then, do so many Christians ask that some Old Testament Laws, the Ten Commandments be posted and followed?

Shalom,

Christians don't know what they are talking about. They are deceived into thinking that they are exempt from the Laws, when even Yeshua said that he was going to fulfill them. When the rich man asked how to inherent eternal life did Yeshua say worship me on your hands and knees? He told him to fulfill the law then pick up the cross and follow in his footsteps.

Those ten commandments have to be fulfilled in order to even be able to follow the path Yeshua created.

Peace

Aza

The Old Testament laws are divided into several section. There are moral laws (which include the 10 Commandments), there are civil laws (dealing with fines and other penalty imposed by courts), there are sanitation and dietary laws (such as how to wash or what not to eat) and there are ritual and sacrificial laws (such as blood offerings and the passover).

The scriptures teach that Jesus fulfilled the ritual and sacrificial laws so that blood offerings no longer have to be offered. Also the sanitation laws and dietary laws have changed to where they no longer make a person ritually unclean - but can still make you sick. They remain valid health principles Since there is no longer a courtroom that enforces the civil laws, they have moved from enforced laws to principles that should help to determine the laws of today.

But the moral laws have not been removed. The principles in them are just as valid and real as they were before the death of Jesus. Murder is still wrong. Theft is still wrong. Adultery is still wrong. So the posting of the 10 Commandments is still a valid thing to do. The death of Jesus did not cancel out the moral laws. It did, however, provide a better way to be cleansed of them should you break them.

Well, it goes like this; At 2 timothy 3:16 it says that "All scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, and for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work." So if the law for the Jews stated that you should not murder-then that is a law that can, and should still be applied. If it said not to steal, it is reasonable to accept the fact that we also in our time should not steal. If the Jews were commanded not to worship false gods, it is still applicable today, even though much of Christians today do not follow that command. The Jews were ordered not to be desiring his neighbors wife and things, that is still true because in the new testament even Jesus said that if you even think of having another woman you have already committed adultery. All the other commandments apply as well. I think that you are confusing the old laws given to the Jews with other Bible teachings. Those were specific laws for them and it is not expected that we follow them today. That is why we should study the scriptures, so that we can be fully competent and fully equipped for every goo work....KECK

The old testament was not obliterated, it was fulfilled. In the New Testament, forgiveness of sin became flesh in the person of Jesus and became the way of eternal life. Jesus NEVER taught that the 10 commandments were now unnecessary. Jesus made reference to the 10 commandments and the necessity of keeping them in His life. In a manner of speaking, the 10 commandments are the rules of conduct. Just read the 10 commandments. What they say..not to kill, not to steal. etc. etc. are why their being posted is desired.

the ten commandments have been given to the Jews purely. Christians did not exist whilst the commandments have been given. Jesus replaced the ten with 2. to love God with all your heart, soul and recommendations and to love your neighbor as your self. The commandments have been meant to be in forced until Jesus got here. Then, Jesus replaced into the tip of the guidelines. Jesus made a clean covenant along with his Apostles and all who could persist with no rely what nationality. this is a sturdy factor that we at the instant are not under the commandments through fact loss of life replaced into the penalty for not staring on the Sabbath.

Yes and no.

For Christians, Jesus fulfilled the Law of Moses.

Christians are not held to the ceremonial parts of the Mosaic Law concerning of dietary purity and temple worship.

Christians are held to the moral law of God, some of which is expressed in the Ten Commandments.

However Jesus took the Ten Commandments to the next step summarizing them into the two Great Commandments:
+ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
+ You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

And teaching things like
+ Everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
+ Everyone is our neighbor including our enemies.

Therefore we have to go much farther than the original recipients of the Ten Commandments ever dreamed.

With love in Christ.

The 10 Commandments still apply. They first part of the commandments deal with our relationship with God, and the other commandments deal with our relationship with each other. Yes it is true that the 10 commandments were written for the Old Testament People because they were under the Law. And with Jesus were are under Grace, however, we still need to obey them. We need to put God first, and we need to honor him, by honoring our parents. If you carefully read through each of the 10 commandments you will see what I am talking about.

The Laws or 10 commandments, apply today as they did in the Old Testament. If you expect to get into heaven, you must be found "Not Guilty" of breaking even one of Gods laws.Since this is literally an impossible task, no-one can make it into heaven. For this reason God sent his Son to die for the sins of man. If you believe and accept this free gift of pardon, then your sins are covered with the blood of Christ. If you do not accept Christ as your savior you will be judged according to how well you followed Gods perfect Law. Remember, the Bible says if you break just one of the laws, you are guilty of breaking them all. Scriptures tell us that the whole purpose of the Law was to bring awareness of our sinful nature and that we are in need of a savior.

Well, like many have said here, Jesus told them that his purpose was to fulfill the law. He summed up the the ten commandments with 2 commands_ " Love God the Father with your whole heart mind, soul, and strength and to Love your neighbor as yourself. " These 2 principles summed up the law and the prophets.

As a sidenote, if a christian put themselves under the Mosaic law, which the Jews observe, then they would be required to follow all of the restrictions and laws including circumsision, sabbath observance, festivals such as passover and atonement day, and could not eat unclean foods( catfish, pigs, crow, etc.)

God made a new covenant with Christians after Christ was crucified. You can read about that all through the New Testament especially in books that Paul wrote. Since Christ died the some of the old laws (bascially the sacrifices) were no longer in effect. However it does leave other laws and practices in effect. Christ death made sacrifices obsolete it did not make the Old Testament invalid.
