all children are different depending what time they got up ,how busy there day was and so on.Ive noticed most kids will fuss and make excuses so as not to go to bed be firm not angry when sending them back to bed tell them they don't have to go to sleep but they must stay in there beds my kids are 7 and 10 the 7 year old is easy 8:30 bed to watch movies 9:00 lights out and hes asleep in minutes , the 10 year old any time between 9 and 11 they both get up at 7:00 somewhat regularly.

There are many variables that affect a child's sleep habits. If the children are hyper active or have had naps during the day it may take longer for actual REM stage. Food consumption greatly affects sleep habit as well so monitor what they eat and drink during the later part of the day. Make sure they get sufficient exercise during each day to help use up some of their energy.

my older son is ten now and he'll fall asleep in about 20-30 min but it too a long time to get him to do that. He's in a regular routine now and just does it but before it was a constant battle. He'd ask for water or go to the washroom or any excuse not to go to bed. We just put our our foot down and stayed consistent. Now we're working on the 3 year old...the battle begins anew!

my 2nd child an 8 year old boy is extremely hyper, but believe it or not it takes him less than 15 min. to fall asleep on typical nights.
