I don't know very much about flute brands, but I do know that any instument sold in walmart or a store like it will not be high quality. I suggest going to a local music store and seeing what they suggest. Also, many closed hole flutes can have the caps taken off to become open holed.

Buying from e-bay has worked out fine for me. Just make sure you get the flute from someone with a high feedback rating. Be sure to ask if there are dents or scratches; they WILL change the tone of the instument no matter how slight.

Try going to local music stores, write down the most expensive brnads, and researching them online.
