I have a cat (long hair, beautiful). Recently she developed some kind of allergy, itchy bumps on her skin. I took her to the vet and he said that it might be a food allergy so he recommended a low-allergy food. The problem is that my cat won't eat, nothing at all! I am really worried now because I know that cats are not like dogs, she will in fact starve, even if she gets sick. What do I do????

Did you do a slow transition with the food? Animals, especially ones on specific diets such as pets, tend to be very sensative to changes. You should slowly intergrate the food together. Adding more and more of the new food and less and less of the old. Do this over about 5 days. If it is a situation where she really can't stand the itchy bumps and 5 days is too much perhaps try making something (human food) that she does enjoy. Maybe some sort of chicken (no marinade or anything that will upset her stomach) and integrate that with the new food. Good luck and hope your kitty gets better!

Let your vet know she is not eating. He may recommend mixing the new food with her current food until she starts to take it. She may also just be feeling sick from the allergies and not eating for a while - check with your vet about a steroid shot for the allergies and possible putting her on some IV fluids so she feels well enough to eat.

Take her back to the vet. Maybe they can find something that your cat will like.
