i'm sick of people saying that everyone who cut themselves is emo. or for that matter, i'm sick of people saying that everyone who's emo also cuts cause i have a friend who's emo and she doesn't cut, and i'm not emo and i do cut. cutting isn't a fashion statement!

i do NOT have boarderline personality disorder. cutting is common among ppl with bpd, but most people who cut don't have bpd. that one bugs me almost as much as the emo thing.

Ugh I agree entirely. I didn't cut but I did scratch the hell out of my arms at one point in my life. My parents thought it was because I wanted to be cool and ignored the fact that I did it during panic attacks in order to try to bring myself back into the "real world". I also had a friend who honestly cut...because her mother only screamed at her for being "stupid" when she actually had an undiagnosed learning disorder. Her father had died recently, her mother was very hateful, and she just couldn't take it all. She was the shyest person I know and hide her scars like they were the secret codes to fort knox. True cutting/mutilation stems from serious mental issues that need attention. It's those snot nosed brats who cut and attempt suicide for attention that make it so much harder for us to get serious treatment.

I endure the same problem. Due to the unfortunate emo phase that's been going on people often confuse those with genuine problems with the attention seekers.

I've been a harmer for a couple of years now and it's not something a lot of my friends know about. I don't go around showing my scars to people and I do it because of unresolved issues.

I'd desperately like help and have sought it but the counsellors are full to the brim here and even a fast track has led me to a year or more wait.

I desperately despise the emo trend of cutting.....real people suffer in silence...these idiots do it because they think it looks cool and it's trivialising the silent pain a lot of people go through.

You need to find people that understand you and also understand that some peoples pain is genuine as opposed to a fashion statement.

Hugs

Im tired of this "emo" buisness...i mean, why is everyone trying to be emo?

The modern def. of emo is sad and depressed.

Why are everyone looking up to sad and depressed people? Is it because they dress like they are against society? Why is rebeling so cool? Why is going to jail, getting in fights, and crying in corners so great?

...thats if i try to look at it from a different persons point of veiw.

I personally think true emos dont express themselves anymore because of all the posers.

But i also think the word "emo" is defined by the beholder.

Well, having a 16 year old daughter myself and she has cut herself. Her emo status wasn't the issue. Her lack of control over her own life and in a harmful way (cutting) was a way to release pain. Something is bothering you or you wouldn't be hurting yourself. Tell an adult that you trust, doesn't have to be your parents. And nothing is wrong with getting help, it shows that you understand that you have a problem and are willing to help yourself. Be proud that you are concerned about yourself.

You could have Borderline Personality Disorder. It's mostly women and girls who have this. It's a treatable condition. You can take classes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. It's not so much depression as it is not being able to express your feelings or being repressed by someone who can't cope with your feelings. The only way to tell is to talk things over with a therapist and go from there.
