I see some kids being raised by liberal, progressive, permissive parents and these kids look like they have demons, they always have these stupid smirks on their face, they never listen when their parent says do something, they laugh and test their parents, their eye seem like they are rolling back, there always fidgeting and just look delirious. It is really scary, like a whole generation has add. I think it is the result of a lack of discipline and some kind of connection to strange cartoons and other psychological input. What do you think?

I think the formation of the mind requires cultivation and borders to keep it focused like a plant, if not the psyche grows unevenly and warped.

little kids are not adults who will listen to reason and have reasonable behaviour
a dog will snap at a puppy that misbehaves
this is totaly normal and not cruel ,instead it is selfpreservation .kids beyond reason and out of control when gron up could end up killing their parents.in the worst scenario,
the mazatecca indian beat their babies already when very small .with a little twig when they cry or misbehave
in the end you have only to wave the twig ,and the kid behaves
these children love their parents and vica versa ,never saw anyone beating a child
we can learn a lot from Ancient cultures

My parents used to "spank" me if that's what you want to call it and today , I'm glad they did . The new form of disciplining children just does not work . I know because I tried with my 11 year old son without success . Around about his 7th year I changed my attitude and methods . Today he is a model child and in my opinion a happier child . I don't believe a child needs to be beaten to within an inch of his / her life but firm discipline is the key . The parent must be in control and have a level of control that "outranks" anything the child has in it's arsonal . A spanking makes an effective statement everytime . This other psychological mumble jumble is the reason why most kids are out of control today .

Some kids just need more punishment than a time out or being grounded but you have to be careful because there is a thin line between punishment and abuse and some kids depending on age and development don't understand that spanking is a form of punishment. I have a 1 year old and I smack his hand when he is getting into things that he should not be and I feel that is a good way to protect him a teach him about the things that could hurt him. But on the other hand you have my friends kids one of whom is authistic and he does not understand that when he is spanked that it is because he did wrong he thinks people are being mean to him so because timeout and grounding works to punish him there is no need to go to physical punishment. So it really depends on the child and what works to punish them.

I think a lot of the insolence and misbehavior you're talking about is learned from movies and TV. Look at how sitcom kids act. And it seems that every movie targeted at kids portrays adults as morons. Then there's usually the obligatory scene where the kid kicks some adult man in the crotch. Basically kids are educated to act this way in our culture. Kids are also educated to know that they're above the law. They can steal and destroy property and the law will usually let it slide. They know they can't be arrested except in extreme circumstances. And kids are taught that if they manage to provoke their teacher to react beyond a certain limit the teacher will be vilified on the six o'clock news while the kid will be considered the innocent victim.

I'm sorry but as someone who probably would be labeled as a liberal progressive, your insinuations are a little offensive. I believe in talking with my child to try to circumvent having to actually spank her and so far it has worked on most occasions. She's only 18 months but she understands that when I or her Daddy say no we mean it...and if she doesn't listen she's not going to like the consequences, whether they are a swat on the butt or an enforced still time in our lap. She is well behaved in restaurants and public and knows if she isn't then she and mommy or daddy are going to be stepping outside to have a talk. Don't assume that because of someones political beliefs they let their children run wild like small delinquents.

It takes a village to raise a child, you have to start when there still babies teaching right from wrong. Now I was born in 1959 an believe me my mother an father tore my bottom up when I did something wrong an I sure didn't do it again.
But today the parents don't want that responsibility. It's not the schools place to raise your kids. An the way it's going now our jails will be just spilling out with young kids that wasn't made to mind. They already thing we owe them something.

I am all for spanking. Not beating, spanking, always done with love. In fact I spanked my older daughter earlier today, and I made it very clear to her why, and had given her several warnings over the past week or so beforehand. I think kids who are raised in homes with loving spanks have a better feel for their limits and are more respectful of authority.

It seems like the older folks in society are setting up future adults for murder! i'm not joking. Look at the news and read the papers. younger children are doing more violent things today than ever before. Whether you are a liberal, progressive, permissive or a parent who is just too busy doing their own thing to take the time and effort to properly raise a child, society as whole is a let-down for todays youth. This is a very profound issue and there's not enough room on this whole internet to get into it. But I do know that the future of our youth is at stake and nobody seems to care.

I have heard the general feeling on spanking has been anti, for a lot of years, but if you notice, there has been an increase in crime and a decrease in the age where it starts, for almost that long.
It's Skinnerian stimulus-response, and it works.

When i was a little a spanking always worked with me...i still remember them...In the Bible it says, spare the rod, spoil the child...I think the "rod" has been spared too much these days...Kids need a good whooping every now and then to show them who the boss is...there are so many children nowadays that tell the parents what to do and that just aint right!!! whatever happen to respect your elders?
Give them a spanking if they need it!!!
