I have headaches associated with this. It feels like the mucous is a thick ball in the back of my throat that won't break loose. Can you give me any suggestions?

I have the exact same problem and sometimes get VERY intense headaches that throb if I exert myself at all even by getting up to walk around.
The best help I have found that is natural is hot Chiles.
Jalapenos, Thai Chiles, cayene pepper... any chile that burns the mouth. Also, I discovered Horseradish or Ginger if eaten raw seems to have the effect for me.
I know it is quite uncomfortable if you don't like hot stuff, I was the biggest baby until about a year ago when I forced myself to eat it a lot. Now I can eat hotter food than my asian wife.
When I eat the chiles, I quickly find my nose is runny and that my sinuses feel better soon afterwords. For the worst headaches, I usually have to add a little tylenol or advil or both to get the pain relief I need. I have discovered that there are herbs that I can take in place of those also. White willow bark is similar to asprin without the side effects and yucca root is a good ibuprofen substitute.
Good luck, hope that helps...

Mix 1tsp of honey, 1tsp of lemon juice, 1 tsp of whiskey, in a cup of hot water. Stir. Drink slowly. The honey soothes the throat. Lemon clears the congestion. Whiskey kills any germs and helps you sleep.

P.S. You may have a sinus infection and in that case you should see a doctor. S/he will prescribe antibiotics.

give yourself a steam inhalation with some menthol crystals in the steam, and eat a pawpaw togethre with about two teaspoonfuls of the pawpaw seeds. you will start coughing up and spitting out all the dislodged phlegms and mucus in no time at all. the pawpaw seeds are not repugnant, just minty and fresh

sounds like a sinus infection to me - try a neti pot first to rinse out your sinuses. I know it sounds gross but it really does help. Trust me - I have had 2 sinus surgeries & use the neti pot daily. Good luck!
