I bought a pair of running sneakers in May and I'm not sure if I should buy new ones. They look brand new still, probably because I mostly run on a treadmill. But I run about five miles a day four days a week and my feet have started to hurt a bit. I'm wondering if my shoes are wearing out. They're Asics Gel Soles. Thanks!

The rule is, when they start to feel comfortable it's time for a new pair. In other words, they should be snug and secure for good support of the foot. The amount of time they last varies greatly on the type of exercise you are doing in the shoes, the condition of your feet and the type of surface you are training on.

I think the life of a pair of sneakers depends on the brand and the amount of use. I personally like New Balance. I have had one pair for at least three years and they are still in great shape. However, I think the question is based on personal taste. You may want to visit a sporting store and have a sales rep. help personalize your running sneakers.

My trainer told me to never wear running sneakers more than a year. You can wear them for other activities after a year, but make sure you replace running and trainers every year. They may look fine (and will be fine for general activity) but the cushion will be broken down, especially if you're running that much. When I was running about 30 miles a week, I was replacing my sneakers about every 8 months just to be safe.

Depends on use, your weight and the brand. Yours is a great brand. Also recommend that you have more than one pair and alternate .
