Why won't the newest version of Itunes open?

I haven't updated itunes in about a year, but tonight i downloaded the newest version(7.0-.2) and it won't open. I tried to configure my computer and that didn't work. When i double click itunes on my desk top it briefly turns to some sort of word document looking symbol and then changes back. I have tried deleting Itunes and redownloading it, restarting my computer and nothing works. Itunes works perfectley fine on my normal computer but not on my Dell laptop, that I believe is windows xp, that i mostly use. Can anyone help me? Thank you very much.

did you go to the add/remove prgrams thing to delete it? if not, try that.
if you did that, or if that doesnt work, try contacting itunes. i have no idea what could be wrong. could you somehow have it blocked? maybe you have a virus? im not sure. good luck!
