I would talk him out of any violent action against the other man. It would be a loving father's first reaction, but you must stop him. You can go to the law and still report it. It is not too late to do so since you were a child at the time. Call the prosecutor's office in your town and ask them what to do and who to contact. Assure you father that the authorities will take care of this. Tell your father that you love him and do not want HIM to go to jail for killing the man. Make sure that he understand that this will hurt you even more than the abuse.

Report it to the authorities. this would take some major healing, something like that is very deep rooted. The person or family would have to surround themselves with people who love them and support them at any length. When trust is broken, trust would have to be rebuilt.
