Hmm. Interesting, Kandy P assumed the person harming the mom was male. That assumption begs the question, what are the details? Is mom going to suffer a heart attack? Is the person yelling at mom because she called her or his son a degenerate spineless cucumber? Many unknowns.. Generally, I would say take the course of action which will minimize your mother's and your discomfort. If you can, for example, assault the person with an improvised device, bur you risk jail time doing so, then best refrain from the assault unless mommy is the jail warden.

For those of us who love our Mom and instinctively want to protect her, the question implies that the yelling itself was uncalled for. Sure, if a person is rude and yelling for the sake of humiliation, I would yell in return. But that would be true for anyone I love - father, brother, sister, spouse, daughter, son, friend. But what if we love our Mom and she's being yelled at for something serious she did wrong. We can get away from our defensive instincts and prove our love to Mom by providing a solution or at least a means of preventing the wrongdoing from ever happening again

Well, I would confront the one who was yelling at my mother, and stand my ground on that situation, being that 'mothers' are the most important person in my family. I've had that situation happen to me, and I did just that, stand my ground, confront this person, toe-to-toe, and let them know that they don't have a place or a say in what goes on in whatever situation that started the yelling, to begin with. I've even gotten into fist fights with people who tried that B.S, and let me tell you, they didn't say another word or raise their voices around, again.
When it comes to family, NO one messes with them, or raises their voice, if they don't have a reason to. If they're just arrogant, you need to put them in their place and let them know, right there, that what they're doing isn't right and won't be tolerated!

I won't stand by and let them yell at my mom because I love my mom and I would stand up for my family. It's wrong to stand there and let someone yell at anyone in your family especially if they were outside your family.

LMFAo..you wanna know what i did? That happened to me about 8 to 9 months ago and as they were leaving i yelled at them and called them a few choice names and they came back in and confronted me and i stood up to them ready for a fight....you have to defend your family even if they don't...but don't just hit them because that can cause more trouble. Yell at them and swear at them and let them swing first. ;)

Regardless if they were in my family or not, I would punch them out! I used to yell at my father when he upset my mother, would never have hit my father though. Anyone else, fair game!

You certainly have a right to speak up and tell this person that they have no buxiness yelling at your mother, Then later, in private with your mother, tell her how you felt about it and ask her why she didn't tell the person herself not to yell at her?
